Why are my peers shocked that I want to stay home for New Years Eve?

I’m in a group chat and people ask what’s going on tonight for New Year’s Eve after work (I’m on lunch break). I said I’m staying home where it’s safe because people do crazy shit like shooting and whatever. Plus I have to work the next day but I don’t go in until 10am. I work from 10-6pm.
One of the girls said she’s going to a New Years Party at her cousins house and party all night long since she doesn’t have to work. One of my guy friends (let’s call him Tim) said to me, “What do you mean ‘Where it’s safe?’ Seriously?”

I said, “Well people would be shooting and doing crazy shit out there and I will not be in there. I like being safe.”

Then Tim said, “You think everyone in New Years is like that. You’re exaggerating of what you think New Year’s is like. Come on! You gotta stop playing it safe all the time and live it up. Besides you get off at 6pm and you don’t have to go in until 10 right? You gotta work tomorrow?”

I said, “Right and I do work tomorrow.”

Tim, “Well you can still come and have a good time. A couple of peers are coming over to my house for a little get together and we’re doing fireworks. You should come by! Then like after 12 you can leave or whatever.”

Girl pal (Let’s call her Heather), “Yeah (my name) people can still have fun without the craziness. Don’t be such a drag.”

His bestie (let’s call him Joey), “My girl and I will be there later on. Time to party!

Me, “Well…. I do have to clean house….. well my room. It may take a while, I have to get ready and….

Tim, “Okay then come by afterwards! What you’re going to clean your room on New Year’s Eve? Get a life (my name)! Your sister is right about one thing. You never do anything drastic or take risks. Quite frankly, you’re boring.”

I rather play it safe thank risk and party. I’m not getting shit. We’re all 21-27 years old.
