When I was a kid, we'd get up REAL early in the morning and start opening them up around 7 or 8. My parents would come down around 9 and the festivities, preparations, etc., would start for later that night.
Sometimes, I'd get up around 3 or 4 a. m. and sneak downstairs and open up just one present to get a clue of what I was getting, then go back up to bed for a few more hours.
When we got older and my older sister became a HUGE yuppy twat, SHE decided that no one would open gifts until we were all there to open them and then we'd sit around the living room in a big circle and someone would dish out all the gifts to whom they belonged and then we'd sit there bored shitless as each of us took our turn opening one gift and then the next in line opened one, etc., until they were all opened. That killed about 90:00!! AND the excitement of the day!!
in Mexico... you do it at midnight... at actual Christmas Eve?
My family gets up at 5 in the morning. My younger sisters can't sleep they are so excited 😆 They are 15 and 11 the 11 year old gets everyone up lol 😆 Having an 11 year old being excited on Christmas morning I think makes Christmas worth it! After we open presents we have breakfast 😋
I was always an eager kid and, eventually, an insomniac.
(Hence, why I didn't grow as tall as I should have.)
I always nagged dad & mom to hand us our gifts at the stroke of midnight and I'd stay up all night playing with my new toys.

We used to do it as soon as the youngest person in the house woke up and yelled "Santa" but now we do one on Christmas Eve after church services, then the rest after lunch.
