Waiters/waitresses who are good, usually it’s like 25 percent. Whatever we have on us, up to a point. If we’re a smidge low, it’s still like 15%, but we feel bad that some of it is change. I try to be really cool about it. I tip in cash, usually bare minimum planned is still over 15%, unless the restaurant “sneak” a demanded tip and they try to hide it, or they expect a 20% tip for three people. Then they get that 20% but I won’t go above and beyond, unless they were incredible.

I try to be a good customer all year. I will sometimes pay for a dine and dash stranger (if I can) because even though that person was a jerk, they shouldn’t be left footing the bill. For never being a waiter or working that type of food ins]dustry, I do have friends who have been there, so I try to not make them any more miserable.

Around the holidays, I try to do extras for them (especially repeat waiters/waitresses) as well as leaving a good financial tip. I can make napkin roses, so the waitresses get one, or I’ll include a little holiday card or something small… bring small candy canes… Little things like that. But I also tip a little more than the usual.

Barbers, I try to sneak a few extra bucks, but my guys usually reject the offer (20% usually) (guess they make a good percentage from the shop, so they don’t need/want it).

The local pizza place - if they are quick and friendly (they usually are), I probably leave a “group tip” of like 7-8 bucks off a $25-30 order, because I know a lot of people might not tip with carry out, especially around the holidays. Being a local place, they also give free food to the homeless (and let them get warm a little) so I want them making some of that back for doing such a cool thing. Quick coffee places, if it’s a carry out, I’ll do a few bucks maybe for each drink.

I normally tip 15%, but I bump it up to 20% in December and I'm a bit more liberal in who gets tipped. Normally I wouldn't tip someone working a take-out counter, for example, but I do in December.

Holidays can be rough, especially for those working service jobs (as I do), so I try to do my part to help out a little.

Standards for tip is different for different type of service and occasions, but there are some normal social rules. We pay amount equal to one month salary to our house maid on our new year festivals (usually termed as bonus) and some homemade sweets and if he or she accept – our non-use utensils and cloths. We pay some fix amount to delivery boys and garbage collection team – generally decided by society or group of residents. It also depends on hominy times he provided service during the year, and was it satisfactory or not. We follow standard tipping – about 10 % of bill for restaurants, usually in roundoff figure. If the one or two persons from staff has served us exceptional, we give them some gift as a token of closeness and respect given to us, to show extra appreciation, these annual gifts are given separately from routine or daily tips. Paying tip to doctor or health care service is not normal practice in our society, and it is a tradition that we never say 'Welcome or good bye' to them, but we give something in cash or give gift to our teachers occasionally – mostly on teacher’s day or on his / her birthday, and on his or her retirement. Tips are based on satisfaction, but we acknowledge consistent, great service with more. Tips are paid in cash, and we usually shake hand with service provider to convey our good feelings, we have seen that it makes a big difference, and we get better service in next visit.

Same as other times… always double the tax and round up to next %… makes math easier.
so it can be 19-22% throughout the year.

I don't have service providers who I tip at Christmastime, but I tip waiters and waitresses 20% if the service was acceptable.

I do 25% over the holidays (or a little higher if I know the server/porter really well).

@DishLady. Don't you know that the guy is supposed to pay for the meal?

If a guy pays the meal I try to cover either the tip or treat to pre-dinner drinks.

But also I was only thinking about when I’m on my own or out with friends.

If I’m on a date or if the guy is feeling chivalrous and wants to treat, that’s lovely. Just not always a given that a guy will do the right thing. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I dont, but that's because we refuse to go out during the holiday season. we feel like its wrong for people to work during the holidays so we dont contribute to making people work. Basically prior to the holidays we buy everything we need so that shopping is not necessary, and eating out is not necessary.

It's not a thing here ( but pay is not as in US )
So only very small amounts at round up , or if a function we might kick in $10 or so...

When in Thai , I just give 20b , we also don't want to encourage the practice , the time of year makes no difference as a Christian holiday doesn't mean anything.

20% or more, it’s the holidays and a lot of restaurant workers aren’t making much, so I try to see it in their shoes.

Just a diner or restaurant, $20 over the cost... I'm by myself.

Bar or party $100 over if she or he is nice... if they go out of their way up to $500 if it's a customer party...
