Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yI think for a while, they thought I was gay or asexual or something (because while I liked girls, I didn't talk to THEM about it much). Mom mentioned when she was sick that the last name will die out and there's not much legacy - My bro isn't interested in marriage or dating, my sister took her husband's name, my cousins with the name are too old for kids and really don't want them, so the name dies on that side. And I am having trouble getting dates, and very well may never marry or have kids. They didn't pester because it was MY role to take care of them in their old age... and success with girls would mean I'm taking time away from what they wanted. Neither of them liked any of the girls I dated (and some were really cool). They passed away, which is in some ways a kind of relief, because I won't have to bring these women over and be embarrassed or offended. I am also more free to date women I'd like, without the color of her skin being a huge issue with them... an added bonus, though they'd embarrass me anyway.
I think I get more comments from my remaining family and "friends" more than anything. It gets old fast.00 Reply

+1 yNo. Thankfully.
I think that only happens in Indian or Muslim cultures actually. American and other cultures MAYBE are more lax about it? Not really sure. Maybe the Spanish/Mexican/Latin Culture is also pressured though because I know how important having babies and children are with those types of cultures! I always see young Mexicans/Latin families getting married and having families in their late teens/early 20's to like early (maybe mid) 30's at the latest... but more towards the 20's... They're smart. They know how to CONQUER things usually fertility and reproduction lol.
In Muslim, Indian or Afghan cultures, they have arrainged marriages so that is also different compared to American culture. In American culture, people don't usually have that and so they are free to be more independent or marry because of love (which is I don't know if it's the best thing because feelings ebb and flow!). Also, they base their committment on such!

I mean you can't say the regular system is flawless either. Lol Most Muslim people wait till marriage till having intercourse so trust me Muslims take their time. Most arranged marriages they wait like 6 months.
Back in the day however they did it immediately which is fing crazy even to me lol. But they knew the families reputation but still massssiiivvveee gamble.
Yes, especially my father. Then my mother agree saying they wanted grandchildren. I've said my piece, I've said my oposition but everytime they talk about "When will you get maried?" Hah! Who is going feed them. Who's going to pay for tuition.
They perfectly knew I'm not financially stable, they knew I don't have a boyfriend. They knew I don't go out much being the perfect daugther so I decided to fuck it all and leave.
I went against all their expectations - the norm of staying home, being near my cousins home. I rented a room lived with a stranger learned to drink, had an affair and moved to a different city. And then, they looking for me?
Who wanted me to mary? Who wanted me to move out? Now that I'm doing what they wanted they messaging me?
For me, marriage is like giving your daughter to a total stranger, going out the house, building, a home or hell, and only visting once or twice a year.00 Reply

10 ReplyJust did these sums if my mother were alive she'd be 100 on 6th Jan , my Dad would be 110...
But forgetting all that , she had 5 kids if I were 25 again , I'm pretty sure there would be no pressure , maybe for children.
Now forward a generation , my daughter turn 35 on 24th June , she is in a very long term. living relationship , she has no children., honestly I would NEVER be stupid enough to try and pressure her into anything! For a start it wouldn't work. hahahaha.. She is strong.10 ReplyMy mother and my father have never discussed marriage with me.
Weird thing is, I hear them discussing it with my siblings sometimes and I don’t care.
I have always been a non-approachable person when it comes to mushy shit like this one. I think they realize how fucked up I am…………I even once laid on a hospital bed almost taking my last breaths but guess what my dear mommy says to me, she wished I was just dead instead.
I don’t discuss shit with my parents……in fact, I haven’t even sat down with any of them for years …….04 Reply- +1 y

Yes sock it to me
+1 ySurprisingly? No. My mom is actually quite proud of me for putting myself first and not stressing over a man or marriage, or, "letting a man mess up my life." (her words)
My mom ALWAYS wanted us to do better than she did: get a good job, degree, and be able to support ourselves- finding a relationship and getting married was just an "added bonus" in her eyes: nice, but not necessary. So it's really not a surprise or upsetting to her that I'm still single or don't care about marriage.
As for my dad? Pfft, he's indifferent. He doesn't ask about my love life, nor does he care if I'm single or find someone as long as I'm happy.

+1 yOnly every other conversation, at least. They are constantly reminding me about their age and how my brother had kids when he was younger than me. I asked mom if I should have stayed with a jerk just to have a husband and kids. She didn’t believe he was a jerk cause he was nice when she was around. Dad said “of course not but still time is ticking away.”
20 ReplyI don’t really have any direct family to speak of at the moment, but growing up no one ever mentioned marriage let alone pressured, for it and I have no reason I hadn’t have no reason to think about it. Honestly I can’t even imagine it, it’s like not a real thing to me lol.

Goodness the typos 😂 I am too sick to type so I’m using 🎤 but I guess I’m not speaking clearly.
Oh thank you ☺️ and yes, I do and it always feel so foreign to me.
it’s just very difficult for me to conceptualize it. I’m sure my ggm would’ve discussed it eventually but she parted this world when I was 7. And everything after that was just survival and relationships were not on my mind let alone marriage. And I’m older now but I think I still have the mind set of survival and it’s just never become part of me.
I’m not really sure of this something I should work on internally or being a relatively intuitive person who doesn’t want to cause harm, I will know when it’s right. I think I can do good in this world without getting married but I’m not against it if the situation presents its self. I don’t mean to sound casual about it. I’m just cautious about not pushing things for the sake of it. - +1 y

I think it’s not good that I can not cry, I agree with you. It’s good for us for our eyes for our peace also it provides closure so we can move on… Very important to be able to have it released times like I can get close to it but it just vanishes. I can feel sadness. Just something watches over me when I get number to quick.
I love children. I think it’s important for adults to be around children help them grow. It’s tumbling and also a constant life lesson in a reminder of our humanity. And of course, it’s so very important for children to have adults who care for them to raise them. So many do not have head, and often they don’t have a fair opportunity to experience life fully, because of that. I think I would adopt if and when I was at a point in my life that it would be the proper thing to do and I had a supportive partner. - +1 y
Not marry and not my parents. But I have a sister who's always telling me that I should get a boyfriend. She's literally obsessed with this idea.
Also, once my mother's friend said that I should be already married because of my age. 🙄🙄🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
12 Reply- +1 y
@Liketotry She's not telling me to have friends of the opposite gender. She's obsessed with the idea of me having a boyfriend. It's different.
And I do have male friends.
I was given a bit of pressure from my mom and a lot from my godmother, but I have always been my own man, and I have never needed anyone to tell me what to do.
I had to remind my godmother that she's been divorced twice before she shut up about it, and she's lucky she did, because I was about to say things that were much worse. Her silence saved me that.
It's been 25 years since anyone tried to pressure me, though. They know I'm going to make my own decisions.00 ReplyNo because they know the reason I´m not married and they always tell me there´s no need to be married just to be married. They´ve taught me to be more concerned on finding a mission and a purpose for my life and then look for a woman. Because if I did it otherwise I would lose myself in dating.
So because I haven´t come to the point where I can say I´m fully settled and financially and emotionally secured enough for a marriage I´m not married yet.00 Reply
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yThey have hinted but they’ve never pressured me thankfully. My grandma on the other hand… she keeps saying that she “ain’t got much time left” and that she wants to at least be at her oldest grand daughter’s wedding lol (She’s also pressuring me to make grand babies asap…)

+1 yI think men are pressured much less than women to get married, even nowadays. It's just because women have a much more strict biological clock than men and parents want grandchildren and they also want your happiness.
00 ReplyThey would like it if I got married soon but weddings and marriages are expensive and they weren’t able to save anything for my wedding or start a married life, so I just tell them I need to make enough money before I get married. So they have no say.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yNot marry. But my mother insisted that I was going to meet the "right woman" and settle down. She kept this up till I was 45. Then she finally changed her tune. I don't think my mother due to the generation she grew up in ever got that times have changed. And a lot of women simply don't want marriage anymore.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yNo. They never had an input like that in my relationship and they shouldn’t. However, I strongly believe that marriage is important to me, as it is signifies commitment for life and a secure relationship with a legal bond as well, but for all of the right reasons, of course.
