Why is wanting a simple marriage such a rare preference?

I told my wife I wanted a simple marriage years ago. I’m highly ambitious and become obsessive with pursuing what I want to professionally. I got ADHD so I’m all over the place at times and it overwhelms her.
We spent the early portion of our marriage fighting and arguing. It drained all my energy and distracted me from things I wanted to accomplish.

We pretty much had a series of real conversations stating that we might not be the perfect match, but our values align, and we have similar goals. We became a little more independent through time and stopped expecting so much from each other. Sort of accepted our flaws and worked with them.

I told her I’ll provide more than enough for her, and I just want to enjoy her. She makes me laugh and we enjoy each others company. She’s a good mom. We have a ton of sex these days which is nice. We like to travel and camp together. We are different in so may ways but made it work. I mean personality, hobbies, etc… Don’t get me wrong, we still get toxic af every now and then, but it’s more controlled. I’m at the phase of my life where I prioritize peace over almost everything else.

If you have to ask this question and your planning on getting married . You should stop and not do it Because the girl your planning on marrying need to know that you dont know her at all  You look at it as not a big deal  For her since she was a little girl she has dreamed of that day It has to be perfect It has to be beautiful because there's only going to be 1 day like it. She has dreamed of it.
 And she will always get to look back at it.
 Because she got to fulfill her dream. And as the man that is marrying her , you should already understand that , and you should help her experience her day

It depends on the person you’re marrying, if your partner loves extravagant things and is superficial… then the rest of your life (including your wedding) she/he will most likely think superficially about everything.

There are lots that like a simple wedding. Others do not. It is not as rare as you claim where I am from.
