Is it offensive to give cologne as a present?

Valentine's Day is coming up next month and I've been thinking about what I should get my boyfriend. I really love when men wear cologne. My boyfriend doesn't wear cologne, but he does use old spice deodorant so when we cuddle he does smell good.

But it would buying him cologne knowing he doesn't wear it seem selfish or even rude? Like that I'm hinting he needs to use it? I guess it could be seen as selfish since I'm the one who wants him to wear it but I would probably get a nice shirt or something to go with it. He's never expressed distaste towards cologne.

Ha your boyfriend sounds like my fiance! He doesn't like to wear cologne but he wears old spice deodorant. I love the smell of the deo more than cologne, to be honest. He lets me pick out his deodorant (as long as it's the best strength) so he can smell the way I like him to haha

He thinks cologne stinks and doesn't like it and will never take the time or hassle to put it on. He also thinks its only made for people that need to date, and he's not dating anymore (we really skipped the "dating" scene altogether, but even if we didn't he wouldn't have worn it :P). If I bought it for him he'd be like "um, thanks" and probably toss it with the rest of our body washes and my perfumes that barely get touched (rather use bar soap). It'd be a pretty useless gift, in other words.

I think that if you are wanting to get him the very best gift, it would be something he is interested in. Or at the very least you should ask if he would use it if you got it. Or if you really want to make it a surprise, buy it for him and see if he uses it and learn from that. Don't be upset if he doesn't like to use it, since it is kind of a selfish gift.

Is it appropriate? Sure, for guys that like cologne.
Would it come across as rude? No, no matter how I look at it I can't see the rudeness in it. Maybe a bit selfish, but hardly rude.

Honestly, it kind of seems like you want to change him a bit? First to wear cologne and next to wear a nice shirt? Are his choices that bad for you? :P (mostly kidding - but there's a sliver of truth in it)

It's not rude, it's just a gift. I would love it if a guy would buy me a perfume, I wouldn't find it offensive. Go ahead and buy it for him.

Nothing wrong with cologne... it should be something that he uses or has tried before though. Simply because giving him a new scent may not be used. Like girls we use certain scents that we like.

It would be it she got me like a year supply and was like trying to show me where exactly on my body to spray it. Outside of that it's all good
