Do you remember Radio Shack?

I remember very clearly. Aside from getting things like magnets and repair parts I mostly remember looking at the video games on the front shelves. That's actually how I got exposed to Doom was looking through the shareware bin at the front of Radio Shack along with games of The Legacy: Realm of Terror.
Radio Shack and Electronics Boutique were my gotos back then for computer and electronics things in the 80s and 90s.
I actually thought it was going strong in the US so I'm kind of saddened if a store citing is a big deal nowadays. The last time I left the US, Radio Shack was everywhere.
Yes! Radio Shack was/is awesome! My Grandfather taught me the ways of Radio Shack decades ago, when I was a kid. As I got older, any time I needed a wire and/or connector that "didn't exist", or needed to get two "non compatible" items to be compatible, Radio Shack almost never let me down! Where is this this one located?
The one in the photo was taken in 2010 some where in New York city
Oh okay. Well as far as I know, all of the Radio Shack stores in the New York City metropolitan area are gone, unfortunately.
I stand (slightly) corrected. There are still 3 stores within 2 hours of New York City, but they're not straight-up Radio Shack stores. They're combination stores with Hobby Town.

Yes. I remember there used to be a Radio Shack in one of the shopping centers in my town when I was still a child.
Yep, they used to be in most malls.

Yes, we had one about 12 miles from where I live
they sold all kinds of different electronics and technology
then I was Bipolar I would switch from one carrier to the next
it was crazy what the mind can do and I switched my number
I'd wake up make coffee and a small breakfast call the phone
company to switch our phone numbers yes just plain crazy
then my mother yelled and she was right I should not done
that stuff
Radio Shacks in my area are all gone
Radio Shack was my favorite store. I belonged to the battery of the month club. I had little card and every month I got a free battery of my choosing. I always got a 9 volt battery to use in my transistor radio. It would last almost for the whole month. The last few days I would connect it it a slot car transformer and charge it up for the night.
I miss The place. We called it Yokohama Hardware because everything was made in Japan.
Sure. I wish that they were still around in large numbers.
You and me both
I grew up in the back of a RadioShack, so I remember a lot of things. Once smartphones became a thing, RadioShack slowly got eaten up by service providers.
I took my first ham radio exam at a radio shack. I remember when most radio shack employees were licensed ham radio users
I was born in 1995, so my RadioShack experience was about 2000-2010
Yeah crazy wow. This also made me remember something else that I haven’t seen in a while a person at work. Strange how memory gets jogged back up sometimes
Yes, there was one in my neighborhood and it closed around 5 years ago I think
My first computer was a Tandy TRS-80 in 1978. I went to Radio Shack almost daily growing up.
yes, a great store to get all of your electronic needs.
I love this place.
No more exist where I live.
Old dude died and his kids sold everything.
Ah... not even good times, just a small little shop to me.
Absolutely although in the UK it was called Tandy, same company though. Used to love it.
Lol yeah.. had one here in my area til 2016 or 2017.
Yeah of course, it’s too bad they are all gone in New York
I think the reason one is still here. Is that its privately owned
Oh maybe that’s why because everything is online to buy stuff from Radio Shack now
This guy is a old guy, he don't do internet. I just talked to the guy today. He will be closing down after Christmas this year.
He said its time to retire. He can't compete with online line stores and he don't even want to do online.
Oh that sucks, I guess he is like the last blockbuster
They used to be everywhere, now only one around here
Yeah we had one in the mall back then growing up and then they shut down
Yes I do! Many stores in NJ
Still today
I remember when Radioshack knew what it was and sold radio equipment nearby.
I haven't seen a Radio Shack in years.
Do you remember Dick Smith Electronics?
Yea I saw one recently when traveling lol
Yup, still got one.
Sounds familiar.
Yep.
