My two mbna credit cards let me buy stuff online but when I go in person to buy stuff, it gets declined, why?

I know a business used my moms credit card without her permission so maybe my card got declined cause somebody attempted to steal my information.

That is odd. Perhaps the strip or chip is damaged. Or, I have done this: I updated the info online when I received a new card, but forgot to put the new card in my wallet. Could not figure out why I could not fill up my gas tank till I realized that the card in my wallet had expired.

It shoulnd't work at either or it should work at both. You should call the issuer and explain to them what's going on. They'll be able to see why the charges were declined.
