Greed capitalism at its best.
I suggest to also introduce:
- Black Monday
- Black Tuesday
- Black Wednesday
- Black Thursday
- Black Sabbath
- Black Sunday.
And perhaps also:
- Christmas II & III
- Halloween part two
- Grandmother's day
- Grand grand mother's day

Get rid of it. It’s funny we celebrate Thanksgiving the day before and talk about how we’re thankful for what we have. Then the following day we wake up and we think we need another bigger better tv or whatever other shit we THINK we need. Get rid of it.

Black Friday is personally one of my favorite times to online shop. I'm an adult and I hate having to annually buy/replace worn out socks, undergarments, athletic attire, sweats/lounge attire etc. These are the things no one ever notices or compliments you on but you still "need" as part of a functional and practical wardrobe.
When Black Friday rolls along, I know my size and I click checkout with the good conscience that I got 30 to 60% off the regular item price simply because I waited a month or two before replacing it anyways.
Black Friday is also a really great time to buy Christmas presents for those that aren't too picky. Mom needs a new appliance but don't care for the model, only one that isn't from the 1990s? *adds to cart*. As long as one is intentional with their spending (they were probably going to buy/gift it within 2 months anyways, not just because it's 15% off). Black Friday is great for anyone trying to pay a little less for the same product.
I voted it should be abolished... the thing is, it exists only because we the people participate in it. For such a thing to happen, we'd have to abolish it for ourselves and basically vote with our wallets.
My overall view of it is just another drive, like Christmas, to sort of force normies to buy shit. Great deals they say...2 weeks after Christmas though the same shit will be there for cheaper. It's a damn money pit... and is just worse because people will act like animals to be involved in it.
Now I'm going to scan through other comments to see how many people think it's a racist holiday just because it's black. 😂 🤣
As a black man I believe that it should be. This is because most of the products people buy are indeed black. Just as the name suggests. An act resembling the times where bright man could purchase dark man! A time of oppression, great greed, & other immoralities. Which is absolutely repugnant. So naturally I disagree with this tradition. I disagree with this bleak Friday.
You can't realistically abolish something like that. If people want to go into a frenzy on that day, they can.
Even though Christmas has gotten more commercial in my life I think Christmas shopping is not as crazy as it used to be. I think that's because people shop much earlier in the year instead of being so concentrated around Christmas like it used to be. There might also be more places to shop so it's spread out more. And of course there is online shopping now.
Nopidity-nope-noooopppe! I just saved like $300 and was able to get some stuff for my business at the cheapest costs I've seen all year. The Black Friday's I used to attend in person 15 years ago where violent raging destructive worst of humanity days a day after allegedly being thankful. Black Friday 2023 is nothing like that. Most people shop online and avoid the big box stores especially after Covid taught everyone who was left how to properly use the internet to never leave their homes. I did actually venture out this year in person and it was so calm in stores, plenty of parking, no one screaming or yelling. It was actually a better day to shop then just a regular weekend day! I think the internet has accomplished wonders in terms of killing off the negative versions of black Friday that used to exist and I'm all for it AND most importantly, saving some money!
no stuff like this is awesome for buying things cheaper
BUT i miss when i used to be able to resell stuff too after black Friday but thats harder now...Most the so called bargains I've seen have been on sale for months already. All they've done is change the label to say "black Friday sale"
Traders have to earn to survive. And some to finance their expensive car, their expensive wife or other things. All of this is important, the economy. The question is - to what extent do we want to be manipulated by promotions like Black Friday? At the end of the day, the retailers get the money from the supposed discounts into their coffers in other ways
Unless you're going to scrap all sales, why does it matter if ots coordinated onto a particular date or done sporadically throughout the year. Its a good chance for stores to clear old stock by slashing its price before they would write it off. Can't see a down side to it
The day means nothing to me in the way of shopping, however and again it is one of those things that hurts nobody and if you don't like it just ignore it, but you have no right to think it should be abolished.
"Abolishing" it is something reminiscent of your name. It's really a non-issue issue.
The "day after Thanksgiving" will be there- at least until the Final Judgement some year.
The day after Thanksgiving simply got that nickname since- in many instances- the huge influx of retail business on that day almost guaranteed the storeowners would "be in the black" (operate at a profit and lot a loss or "being in the red") for the year.
It should be abolished because it was about selling black slaves by white people for cheap price just as stores are selling stuff for cheap on black fridays. The funny thing is black owned shops are very active using this stupid term but I think that they are the ones that are actively using that term.
boyfriend is just a "sham"... Actually the "prices" advertised on boyfriend, thise are the Original prices, any Other price beyond that is just PROFIT! 🤷♂️
I haven't seen any bargains I'd want to take advantage of on black Friday for years. I'm visiting family for Thanksgiving and none of the brick and mortar stores are any more crowded than any other day of the week.

They don’t have the sales that I want. I want a sale on an 85 inch Samsung or Sony. The sponsor of the NFL flatscreen TV high definition 4K TV I don’t want a 55 inch sale. I want my 85 inch TV and I want it now
How could it be abolished? By mandating all stores close on the day after Thanksgiving? They would just move it to Saturday.
Yes.
90% of the stuff we don’t need.. if people stop buying junk… they can actually all become millionaires within 10 years with normal dual income. Its all bullshit , but I love marketing , if people are really that stupid , just let them believe , it works so it will never be abolished , Sorry it wasn't around when I had the golf shop.
That would be racist.
You do realize it is the only day of the year that Black people have to shop? ( hence the name "Black Friday").
Go back to your closet and change your racist ways White boy!!!
Well the sales suck now it’s basically already abolished; 20% off is NOT a sale
