Should I give my new friend anything?

I made a new friend last night. Her birthday is coming up soon. Her birthday is in a few weeks. Is it appropriate to give her a gift, or a birthday card? I have Asperger’s, so I miss social cues.

I would say you can if you would like, I wouldn't get anything extravagant just something small. But I wouldn't feel obligated to either. You haven't been friends very long.

I don't know what to tell you because I don't know your friend so I have no idea what she would like or not like. When I say something small just something that doesn't cost a lot of money. Something to say you're thinking of them, you care about them and enjoy your new friendship.

I guess a card would be nice, but I was more thinking something like any candy or box of cookie she likes. Maybe a drink she enjoys. Nothing big or expensive. Just something she enjoys. But again, you've known her a short time. You don't need to get her anything. This is really if you really just want to get her something to show that you appreciate the new friendship

Nothing is expected nor required. However, it is fine to give a birthday card. A gift, if any, should be nominal. That is, bake a dozen cookies or a fruit cake. If you buy something, and I don't recommend it, don't spend more than two hours of your wages.
