Boyfriend's birthday gift to me: unhappy?

For my bfs birthday I bought him a silver pocket watch and a leather wallet. I thought these were nice gifts that would be useful and would last a long time. He had an old cloth wallet. He's a lawyer trying to start his own law firm so I thought it would be nice to have a good wallet.

Then my birthday came and he got me a plain silver chain no charms and fake diamond stud earrings (im not sure if they're CZ or just cut glass). I thought these gifts were a little thoughtless. I can't wear studs because they infect my ears and who gives a fake stone to a girlfriend on her birthday. I would have rather gotten a real less expensive stone. And I've never gotten just a plain chain as a gift. What do you all think?

I know he's short on money because he's starting a law firm but so am I because I lost my job a couple months ago.


In any case, I asked him if he intended to just give me a chain by itself and he said "yes he liked the chain".


So I'm thinking to him this wasn't a crappy gift...who knows.


I told him that I was a little disappointed and he thought I was talking about the monetary value, but I just wanted him to put more thought into it because it seemed very generic

find yourself a new guy. that is a bad sign. Means you probably don't mean that much to him.

In general guys suck at buying gifts for women...sheer bad taste...but that takes the cake.

Really. He should be inviting you to a fine restaurant, give you a hot oil massage and bake you

a cake and sh*t. For really girl. Get yourself a real man. someone who's sensitive and can give you goosebumps...it can happen

Well he's a lawyer, so the cost of stuff is always going to be at the front of his mind. I'm not at all surprised by his reaction.

Maybe instead of both of you being upset with the situation, you should hold each other a little tighter, realize you're both struggling, and that as long as you have each other through this rough patch, you can both make it through anything together.

For my money, that's an incredible gift to have.

Maybe he's hard up on cash or something. At least he got you something for your birthday. Sony be so shallow. I'm sure once he starts his firm he'll shower you with f***ing diamonds or whatever, but not if you're going to be a prissy brat.
