Good plastic surgeons can make anyone look beautiful. Don't think that all they did was taking hormones and applied a bit of makeup. It took more than that.

The phrase actually originates in the fashion world. The colour Black is always considered chic and popular in the fashion world, so "____ is the new black" means that it is now being considered the new 'in' thing.
Being trans isn't a "new" hip thing, being trans is something that's been looked down on for decades and now that Bruce fucking Jenner has done it people are making a big fuckin deal out of it.

I just heard stories about Caitlyn Jenner... there's so many Kardashians and Jenners I figured this was another sister joining the spotlight. Saw the picture, thought 'not bad' and THEN read she had transitioned.

I have a major problem with the Vanity Fair cover. Caitlyn's pose is awkward and the outfit is ugly. That being said, while I think it's amazing that our society has become so much more accepting of the LGBTQ community, I do not believe that Caitlyn Jenner is the best spokesperson for the cause. I dislike how much attention this event is getting simply because of the relation to the Kardashians.
I see no reason for Caitlyn to not use the platform she has. It is foolish to have resources and choose not to use them!
I'm not saying she shouldn't use the resources! That would be ridiculous. However, because of her ties to the Kardashians there's a part of me that doesn't agree with the popularity this has gained. There were countless transgender individuals before her that could have paved the way into social acceptance for the LGBTQ community but because we're kind of obsessed with the Kardashian family, it got put on Caitlyn. That much I don't agree with. If that makes sense.

I'm normally pretty liberal on social issues and I stick to the 'to each their own' philosophy pretty rigidly. That said, this is just weird to me. I don't understand it at all and I really don't know why I should call him/her Caitlyn. It doesn't hurt anyone and they shouldn't get hate but I just can't really support it when it doesn't make any sense to me and, frankly, surely there are bigger issues in the world right now?
Yes there are, but the "people in Africa are starving so this shouldn't matter" defense is one I'm not too fond of, personally. The main thing to consider is that some people's brain are more akin to the opposite gender than the gender they were born with. It's a 'malfunction' that happens in the womb, in which case transitioning can help them a lot.
In other cases, they are mentally ill and simply require the right support. For those cases, transitioning often ends up leaving them unfulfilled, even suicidal. It's tragic.
@Remonster True enough. It has always struck me as odd that feminists seem so supportive of transgender people when the whole transgender issue seems to rely on one gender having a specific kind of brain.
Yeah Im not suprised that people who do this are sometimes just confused.
I guess my point is that this is obviously very private to him/her and it isn't hurting anyone so it's fine. I'm pretty ignorant on this issue admittedly so I'll refrain from judgement. I could research it better but I'm much more interested in other topics that I feel are more important so I'll just stick to my "meh, it's up to him/her" approach.

Just because a social issue isn't as big in the world scope, doesn't mean it isn't important at all.
I'm tired of this LGBT stuff. If someone thinks they're a guy or a girl when they're not, fine, but no one else cares.
I don't care what your sexuality or other identity is. No one cares. Just shut up about it, already.
You may not care, but tons of people out there still hold incredibly bigoted opinions against LGBTQ people, which cause society to often be an awful and hateful place for many LGBTQ individuals. Visibility (such as this) can help fix that, can help change people's mindsets. So you may not care, but at least recognize that having media attention such as this certainly is important, especially when people out there are literally being killed due to bigotry.
Just take a look at all the comments on this take. People care. They care A LOT.

Society is wrong about a lot of things not just transgendered people. If this is so much of an issue then the doctors that helped Bruce Jenner reach his goal, wouldn't have even worked on him. Point being not many people actually care because it doesn't matter to them either way. Who exactly is discriminating this issue? If you say society as a whole? Yeah people have opinions that's part of free speech and everyone has an opinion.

There's also fear of what will happen to children, fear that this insanity will be legally forced upon those who don't want it, the fact that the push to force it is a blatant attack on the beliefs of a majority of world faiths and an attack on science and logic to boot, the fact that it creates a loophole whereby anyone can "claim" an identity, and use that to gain access to places they should not, etc.

All the guys are not freaking out, I find most of these women quite attractive. Why won't you except these men for who they want to be? Just because they don't agree or couldn't see themsselves in a relationship with one of these women does not mean they are bad people. You are judging them just as severely as they judge others, so how are you any diffrent? Also the fact that masculinity and sexuality have, for the majority of our history, been more strictly and rigidly defined for men than for women is one of many reasons why they could be haveing trouble coming to terms with this. That is something society places on them and would be unfair of you to judge them with out also acknowledging this conncection. Also if you look at the upvotes on comments many of the ones you are critisising are being upvoted by women which shows that this is not such a clear cut issiue as you want to believe.
