The phrase actually originates in the fashion world. The colour Black is always considered chic and popular in the fashion world, so "____ is the new black" means that it is now being considered the new 'in' thing.
Being trans isn't a "new" hip thing, being trans is something that's been looked down on for decades and now that Bruce fucking Jenner has done it people are making a big fuckin deal out of it.
It's still horribly depressing that men can look way more sexy and feminine than I can. If it's a "trend" it's definitely not one I'm going to be getting behind.
Good plastic surgeons can make anyone look beautiful. Don't think that all they did was taking hormones and applied a bit of makeup. It took more than that.
It can take years for people to fully realize something they have invested all of who they are into, is a lie, and will NOT bring them the happiness they so desperately are seeking.
Why are you standing up for something you know absolutely nothing about, that is proven to be harmful to many who undergo it? Do you hate transgender people? Why do you assume I know nothing about it?
I just heard stories about Caitlyn Jenner... there's so many Kardashians and Jenners I figured this was another sister joining the spotlight. Saw the picture, thought 'not bad' and THEN read she had transitioned.
Jenna is beautiful, there are some amazing pictures of her.
This is just sick. What's the point in getting your gender changed? A guy can't have a baby just because he has the outer body parts of a woman. This is just disgusting. If you're not born a woman, live with it, and vise versa.
No one is stopping you from sailing the world, you have a right to do that (if you have all the licenses you need). You are entitled to do anything that makes you happy given it does not violate the rights of others, basically.
I have a major problem with the Vanity Fair cover. Caitlyn's pose is awkward and the outfit is ugly. That being said, while I think it's amazing that our society has become so much more accepting of the LGBTQ community, I do not believe that Caitlyn Jenner is the best spokesperson for the cause. I dislike how much attention this event is getting simply because of the relation to the Kardashians.
I'm not saying she shouldn't use the resources! That would be ridiculous. However, because of her ties to the Kardashians there's a part of me that doesn't agree with the popularity this has gained. There were countless transgender individuals before her that could have paved the way into social acceptance for the LGBTQ community but because we're kind of obsessed with the Kardashian family, it got put on Caitlyn. That much I don't agree with. If that makes sense.
They're pretty good looking gotta be honest. Except for the bearded one. What the fuck is up with that shit? Anyway it's not my cup of tea. I couldn't date any one of them. I could befriend them though. I bet they're very interesting people to say the least.
I'm normally pretty liberal on social issues and I stick to the 'to each their own' philosophy pretty rigidly. That said, this is just weird to me. I don't understand it at all and I really don't know why I should call him/her Caitlyn. It doesn't hurt anyone and they shouldn't get hate but I just can't really support it when it doesn't make any sense to me and, frankly, surely there are bigger issues in the world right now?
Yes there are, but the "people in Africa are starving so this shouldn't matter" defense is one I'm not too fond of, personally. The main thing to consider is that some people's brain are more akin to the opposite gender than the gender they were born with. It's a 'malfunction' that happens in the womb, in which case transitioning can help them a lot.
In other cases, they are mentally ill and simply require the right support. For those cases, transitioning often ends up leaving them unfulfilled, even suicidal. It's tragic.
@Remonster True enough. It has always struck me as odd that feminists seem so supportive of transgender people when the whole transgender issue seems to rely on one gender having a specific kind of brain.
Yeah Im not suprised that people who do this are sometimes just confused.
I guess my point is that this is obviously very private to him/her and it isn't hurting anyone so it's fine. I'm pretty ignorant on this issue admittedly so I'll refrain from judgement. I could research it better but I'm much more interested in other topics that I feel are more important so I'll just stick to my "meh, it's up to him/her" approach.
You may not care, but tons of people out there still hold incredibly bigoted opinions against LGBTQ people, which cause society to often be an awful and hateful place for many LGBTQ individuals. Visibility (such as this) can help fix that, can help change people's mindsets. So you may not care, but at least recognize that having media attention such as this certainly is important, especially when people out there are literally being killed due to bigotry.
Society is wrong about a lot of things not just transgendered people. If this is so much of an issue then the doctors that helped Bruce Jenner reach his goal, wouldn't have even worked on him. Point being not many people actually care because it doesn't matter to them either way. Who exactly is discriminating this issue? If you say society as a whole? Yeah people have opinions that's part of free speech and everyone has an opinion.
For me, I find it VERY disgusting, disturbing and repulsive. I also see those attention seekers, with their hype masters and propaganda ready to point out fingers to anyone who dares to say: "No Thanks."
he's right. it's still pretty sickening. i mean sure we can try to respect you, but now humans are messing with something that isn't meant to be messed with. like if we were meant to change our genders we would all be born as blank gender, boy and girl
@bang678 . I do not hate them or wish they go to hell. If I feel anything it would feeling sorry for them and how they are presented to the world (sometimes promoted AND used). But as I have seen before, even trying to "agree to disagree" is not acceptable by the media.
Are u dismissing that, via mutation, the emotional and psychological makeup of a human specimen's internal identity doesn't match up with their physical anatomy?
How is it fair for someone to live under a false gender identity that doesn't match their anatomical makeup?
See that was my point Prof_Don ! I didn't even go in discussing that! All I said, I will never be attracted to them as "female". I did not go to them (Or tell others) to go and shame them. it is just not my thing and I do not view it to ever will be. And those attention seekers, with their hype masters and propaganda are a burning flame to anything that even blinks in it way.
I find this just unnatural and fake. Sorry, but a man is man and a female is a female, period. Guys are born with a d**k and girls with a v****a. Use the equipment mother nature gave you right.
That happiness won't last. And it will destroy them in time. Killing and eating young men made Dahmer happy, for a time. Did he have a right to what made him happy?
Good, he should be able to do this if it makes him happy, it doesn't harm the rights of anyone else, so everyone should just chill. He has the right to be happy just as much as you have the right to read your bibles !
I love how all the guys are freaking out. You men are just afraid of finding a beautiful lady who turns out to be a guy. You men can't accept people for who they want to be damn.
It's not that. It's more like some people just think he's doing it for publicity. frankily, if he had enough self confidence to love himself, he wouldn't have to change.
I am sorry, but I am going to have to disagree with your assessment here. I cannot bring myself to the notion of supporting someone in their efforts to live out a lie. Now sure people might be curious about what it is like to be the opposite gender. I bet everyone has done it. But the fact remains that he was born into this world a male. Surgery is not going to turn him into a woman.
@DocT1977 Let people be who they want to be. That's like saying to a kid "Sorry but even if you do become 6'2, you'll never be able to play basketball."
"Let people be who they want to be. That's like saying to a kid "Sorry but even if you do become 6'2, you'll never be able to play basketball." Really? What kind of a comparison is that? So if someone wanted to be a gender other than what they are, Do you mean to tell me that you would lie to them for their own comfort? Tell them they can be something that is genetically impossible and further their quest to live out a lie? Sorry, I believe that is morally wrong.
@bang678 I am going to take into account that you are just thirteen here. However, I am going to set you straight. It is not okay to lie to people and tell them that they can be something that they can physically never be. Would it not be a better idea to tell someone to be at one with who and what they are, and to be proud of that as opposed to what they wish they could be? Trust me. By being honest with people instead of lying to them for their own comfort, They will respect you for it later and they will come for you to get the real answers instead of just going to someone who will simply blow smoke up their asses and simply tell them what they want to hear.
@RainbowFanGirl: Who made you an expert psychologist? I even heard a transie tell me that most transies regret the transition later on. There's also fear of what will happen to children, fear that this insanity will be legally forced upon those who don't want it, the fact that the push to force it is a blatant attack on the beliefs of a majority of world faiths and an attack on science and logic to boot, the fact that it creates a loophole whereby anyone can "claim" an identity, and use that to gain access to places they should not, etc.
And speaking of the "fear of loving men" thing: Love and lust are never the same thing. On top of that, nobody appreciates fraud. If I want fire wing chicken, don't give me ranch sauce chicken, label it fire wing chicken, and tell me there's no difference and to ignore what my tongue plainly tells me.

I'm not a pervert. Not an expert physiologist. No need to be so hostile. I was only agreeing to the comment. Plus that's what one of my friends told me today at school when we were discussing the Caitlyn Jenner business. (: I know all of y'all don't support it for the same reasons. Thank you. @ObscuredBeyond
would you date a man who used to be a woman? Wait a minute your 13... I shouldn't question your authority. I you already know everything there is to know about the world.
All the guys are not freaking out, I find most of these women quite attractive. Why won't you except these men for who they want to be? Just because they don't agree or couldn't see themsselves in a relationship with one of these women does not mean they are bad people. You are judging them just as severely as they judge others, so how are you any diffrent? Also the fact that masculinity and sexuality have, for the majority of our history, been more strictly and rigidly defined for men than for women is one of many reasons why they could be haveing trouble coming to terms with this. ''Several pictures of some transgender people for no reason what so ever''
Exactly :P
I think GAG like the Instagram embed feature!
But,''Transgender is the new black'', Wtf? That name is so stupid and retarded its just completely inappropriate
It's a reference to a TV series. It's not referring to black people!
The phrase actually originates in the fashion world. The colour Black is always considered chic and popular in the fashion world, so "____ is the new black" means that it is now being considered the new 'in' thing.
Being trans isn't a "new" hip thing, being trans is something that's been looked down on for decades and now that Bruce fucking Jenner has done it people are making a big fuckin deal out of it.

ohhh stop it!! you're gorgeous <3
They're not men. They're women.
@aquariusmystery they started out as men... I figured everyone would be able to follow me that far... guess not.
Those guys are using surgeries to look like that. Do not compare to that people. You are way better than them
they did not start out as men.
@lauramax what is your medical definition of a male?
@lauramarx
Good plastic surgeons can make anyone look beautiful. Don't think that all they did was taking hormones and applied a bit of makeup. It took more than that.
There's a difference between being an asshole, and sharing your opinion. I suggest y'all learn it before you make a post.
Thanks for the tips coach
@Notedkibbles You're welcome, pal.
right on!!
Seriously why is gag pushing this garbage onto us
@Koldhearted I know right? All these transphobic people being uber rude in the comments. So uncool.
The title is kinda stupid. Like I know what you were going for, but it just didn't work
The people automatically assuming it is a reference to black as in skin color are very ignorant.
@Remonster Or just plain stupid. I thought __ is the new black was a saying that everyone knew
I actually didn't but my first reaction was to look it up. Still not the most clever title, but sure, transgenderism is on the rise for sure.
Roses are red
Transgender are black
Since when gender is a fad?
Gimme feedback.
Not a fad, but it's certainly more popular than ever, and more accepted.
@Remonster how so?
We like to think there are no consequences to what we do in life.
Altering your body to stray from your born biological purpose apparently has many consequences:
www.wnd.com/.../
Waking up one day and regretting a surgical mutilation of your body that cannot be readily undone is a difficult thing to live with.
Why do you think its typically years after they go with the surgery? Can't talk shit about something you know little, if anything, about.
What makes you assume I know nothing about it?
It can take years for people to fully realize something they have invested all of who they are into, is a lie, and will NOT bring them the happiness they so desperately are seeking.

@MoonlightWolke It is disgusting. God made us the way we are in gender. Having someone's gender changed is being disrespectful to God.
*sighs* another extreamest...
@MoonlightWolke Guess what? I'm proud to be an "extremest".
Its not disgusting, he should be allowed to do what makes him happy. Do us all a favor put down your bible now.
@MaiNamelsSunshine If we were all allowed to do what makes us happy, then I would be sailing all around the world right now.
No one is stopping you from sailing the world, you have a right to do that (if you have all the licenses you need). You are entitled to do anything that makes you happy given it does not violate the rights of others, basically.
That's easy for you to say when you don't feel like a man born in a woman's body. Your lack of empathy is sad.
@MaiNameIsSunshine Just because Bruce is doing something that makes him happy doesn't make it any less disgusting.
I see no reason for Caitlyn to not use the platform she has. It is foolish to have resources and choose not to use them!
Thanks for the extra details by the way.
You are welcome!
Just because a social issue isn't as big in the world scope, doesn't mean it isn't important at all.
I'm tired of this LGBT stuff. If someone thinks they're a guy or a girl when they're not, fine, but no one else cares.
I don't care what your sexuality or other identity is. No one cares. Just shut up about it, already.
Just take a look at all the comments on this take. People care. They care A LOT.
Really? A million other more important issues in the world and we are concerned with this? Wow wake up people.
Curious. Why do u find social issues not important?
Society accepting and better understanding gender identity, thus less discrimination is society moving forward in my opinion.
Society is wrong about a lot of things not just transgendered people. If this is so much of an issue then the doctors that helped Bruce Jenner reach his goal, wouldn't have even worked on him. Agreed.
agreed as well
Fellas, you better start triple checking your girls because they're looking a little too believable these days.
If they're happy, then they have my unbridled support. They have a right to being beautiful just like anyone else.
That happiness won't last. And it will destroy them in time. Killing and eating young men made Dahmer happy, for a time. Did he have a right to what made him happy?
@ObscuredBeyond That is perhaps the strangest and most ridiculous analogy I've heard on GaG. But hey, at least you don't evoke Godwin... kind of.
Seeing lots of down votes from boys on this issue. Why can't y'all just grow up and be secure in yourselves, let others be who they are?
Why are you all sooooooooooooooooooo afraid of transgender people?
Good, he should be able to do this if it makes him happy, it doesn't harm the rights of anyone else, so everyone should just chill. He has the right to be happy just as much as you have the right to read your bibles !
Why do you target Christians?
Because they're the ones being so rude and intolerant here.
@Kingoficeolation, yes they keep saying that it goes against the bibles.
She's free to do whatever she wants to her body and express herself in whatever means she wants to.
I love how all the guys are freaking out. You men are just afraid of finding a beautiful lady who turns out to be a guy. You men can't accept people for who they want to be damn.
Exactly, that's the only reason so many are against it. Because they.'re afraid that they'll begin to "love men"
It's not that. It's more like some people just think he's doing it for publicity. frankily, if he had enough self confidence to love himself, he wouldn't have to change.
