LOL, of course not. discipline is about teaching your child right from wrong, not about senseless beatings (which are often just the parent venting their frustration on the child). But I certainly don't mind parents who give their child a little tap on the bum!
"discipline is about teaching your child right from wrong"
so what are you proposing they do, exactly? give them a lecture about the virtues of obedience in the middle of the supermarket? Taking care of a child is a loud, noisy, difficult process. You can't just "control" a child without hurting them. They are going to have tantrums, no matter how much you give them stern moral lectures. In reality all of your discipline probably has next to no actual effect on the child's development. Toddlers scream.
I'm not talking out of my ass by the way: my mother works in a nursery school, looking after almost 30 3-4 year olds every day. I'm there all the time helping out. She has not, in twenty years, "disciplined" a child, nor given them "a little tap on the bum" - that's just not how you manage children effectively.
physical punishment has been proved many times to harm a child's psychology. It's not a good idea in the long run. And don't give the excuse of "I was raised that way and turned out fine". You're not fine and physical punishment is just barbaric.

I agree. And this is why I don't want kids.
Well I don't have to worry about that, I'm never going to have children 😄
I find children annoying especially while im out shopping. I see kids running everywhere. This is one of the reasons why i do not want kids
Is it time to bring back child beaatings?

If those worked, the kids wouldn't have acted badly enough to get them IMHO
Yes! Beat the shit out of the little bastards. It's the only way they will learn to behave!
And daycares don't beat kids, and the kids mostly act fine there all day right?

@Laura_Marx I said discipline, not hitting. Clearly you don't know anything about discipline.
@Laura_Marx and I've actually worked in childcare, so I don't need a lecture from someone who thinks they know it all, because you clearly don't.
@Laura_Marx totally agree.

I think a lot of tantrums would end quickly if the parents just asked the child what was wrong.
I agree full heartedly. Especially at restaurants.
