So since I have exhausted the stories of my family and friends, we move up a notch to true stories I have read online or in books. NOTICE. I am not taking responsibility for people who can't sleep tonight. If you read on, that is your problem, not mine.
1. Laughter in the Night
So the girl (whom I will call Leanne) moved into a Victorian house with her mother. Leanne was 6 years old. Every night, she would hear an unsettling sound like someone laughing a lot, but there was something really freaky about it. She mentioned it to her mother who just said that the TV was probably left on in a neighbour's house.
One night, Leanne heard the laughing a lot louder and clearer than before. It seemed to be in her bedroom! She sat up, intending to run to her mum for safety and to see what was going on but two hands clamped down painfully hard on her shoulders and the laughing got more sadistic. Leanne screamed, her mother ran into the room, turned on the lights and spent the next few minutes trying to convince her it was just a nightmare. Leanne told her mum that her shoulders still hurt a lot, her mother pulled her top off, and there was a large, adult sized hand mark on either shoulder. When Leanne got older, she mentioned it to her mother who went white as a ghost and said that she did not want to remember it, ever again.
2. The Most Haunted House in Britain.
So there was this house in Essex built upon the site of a house that had been recently knocked down for the Rector of Borley and his family. It was called Borley House. The family moved into the house and strange things started to happen, they kept seeing this nun that would disappear when they tried talking to her, headless coachmen, etc. The son and his family moved into the house and one of the daughters was hit in the face by something she could not see, strange voices were heard at night, stones were thrown at them from nowhere, one of the girls was locked in a room that did not have a key. The family saw other ghosts and finally left. Another family moved in after a lot of strain finding someone brave enough and strange messages were written on pieces of paper saying to the wife, Marianne, "Marianne, help me out!" Marianne would respond with writing a response but the writing after was illegible. The incidents got more serious and finally, when the whole family but the new Reverend was away, the house caught alight and two figures were seen running from the building, one being the Reverend, the other, unknown.
A story was told by the village of long ago, a nun falling in love with a monk, they were found out and the monk was hanged and the nun walled up inside the house. After the house burned down, they dug underneath and found the skeleton of a woman wearing religious pendents 3 ft under. A seance was conducted and they made contact with a spirit that said she was a French nun that had come over and married a member of the Waldegrave family, the owners of the house before that one. The husband had killed her and had disposed her body in the cellar.
3. The Third Hide-and-Seeker.
Two eight year old boys, Jerome and Estefan were playing hide and side while their parents were away. They hid in the garden, the house, all over. It got darker and it was Estefan's turn to find Jerome. He was hard to find, he hid himself really well. After being certain that he had searched the whole house, Estefan decided he should start the garden. He had hoped Jerome was in the house, he thought it was getting a bit dark. Jerome was not afraid, why should he be? With courage, he ran outside to search for his friend. He looked in all the usual areas close to the house, no Jerome. He looked over into a dark corner a little further off, that might be a good place to hide thought he to himself. Wow, Jerome must be brave. There was no way he was going into that corner, nuh-uh. He called into the corner for his friend and he got an answer! Jerome called back, "Come over here!"
"Nah, I know where you are hiding, I found you. Just come out. It is your turn to find me."
"Come over here!" cried Jerome's voice.
"No, just come out. Come on."
The voice changed dramatically, it turned adult, deep, and sinister.
"Come over here now, Estefan!"
Estefan ran as fast as he could, screaming into the house. He was greeted at the door by Jerome. Jerome had been hidden in the house the whole time but had come out when he heard screaming.
4. The Black Shadow.
So, this couple, Nathan and Gwynedd were sleeping in their bed at Nathan's mother's house. They were sleeping and Gwynedd started having a night terror. She woke up to see this black shadow of a person sat on their bed. She looked over and saw Nathan staring at it too. he got up and jumped at it aggressively and it left. Apparently, this ghost was a regular sight at this house.
5. BONUS STORY- Why I Take the Dog Out at Night.
So after reading all that, I am going to share a funny story with you that is kind of creepy but funny at the same time. This is about me and my sister (whom I shall call Evangeline).
Evangeline was watching The Hound of the Baskervilles, an adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes book. The story is about this huge, black, demon dog that curses this family that lives in Devonshire. The dog picks a time when a family member is out at night, then rips their throat out. Pretty nice.
So, my family live in South Wiltshire, not too far from Devon. This story kind of creeps us out partly because how well we know the location it is set. We live in the middle of a forest, the village being 1/2 a mile away. We have a small, bratty Jack Russell Terrier called Percy whom we do not let out without a leash because there is a road that cars drive fast on, and he runs off and gets into trouble. He literally bangs at the door when he needs out so we know to get his leash and take him for a short stroll in the garden to relieve himself. Evangeline was watching the movie and she heard Percy banging. the other members of the family were in a different location of the house so she was the one to do it. She felt a bit creeped out from the movie she was watching, but took him out anyway.
Percy was just finishing when she heard a bark, a a big, black lab that had got loose came running at her! She screamed and ran into the house. She does not take Percy out at night anymore.

Good take I've encountered shadow people too, recently I've been encountering an old hag."Old Hag” syndrome. Quite possibly one of the most terrifying sleep related disorders that affects more people than previously thought. Tales of an “old hag” coming into somebody’s bedroom at night and pinning them down while they struggle to breath from the enormous pressure they feel smashing down on their chest, are well too common. These tales span from different races, continents and religious backgrounds. Most assume that these nightly episodes are visitations from something out of this world.
One encounter I remember well is from childhood while our family on my mother's side were all together and 3 sets of cousins. One of the cousins was being snotty so we shoved her in the larder, and held the door closed, she started screaming to be let out pushing against the door to be let out and it took four of us to keep it closed, then she went quiet, after a couple of minutes we decided to let her out. So we opened the door but she was gone we looked around the old empty larder and there was no way out. We panicked and searched my aunts home from top to bottom panicking about where she was and what our parents would do. We went back to the kitchen to look in the larder again and she just walked in the back door. She had no memory of being put in the larder at all and claimed to have been playing in the garden the whole time. We of course never solved it but there have been other instances with my cousin and some sort of doppelganger where you would see her walk by in her parents place only to see her walk by again or maybe be speaking to her only for her to be upstairs. But there is certain members of my family that attract the paranormal to them or upset the paranormal world.
The first one really freaked me out for some reason.. Mostly because the "spirit" actually inflicted physical damage on her.. But I think I'll get over it ;p Also, the story with your sister is a great example on how a creepy story/book/movie can affect your mentality. I was kinda hooked on thrillers when I was younger.. I still have a hard time sleeping sometimes XD
Tell me personal experience not other stuff. Did you ever feel a spirit around you?
Wow...
What did I upset you for wanting something that you actualy feel it rather then read it or herd in stories?
