I stopped using a taxi since I was eighteen or so, and I will never use again even if it’s needed. I mean, I would rather find some hotel to stay the night than use a taxi and return home, even if it means I would have to pay more. Even if I had to rush somewhere, I would rather be late than use a taxi. I simply despise them.

First of all, Taxi Drivers are usually middle-aged men. And it’s pretty awkward being into a car (taxis are essentially, just plain cars) with a middle-aged man as the driver, and usually me and him alone.
Secondly, Taxi Drivers tend to talk to you for various subjects even if you are not interested. I understand the need to talk to someone, when you are driving so many hours…but I’m just not interested in your company (personally at least). If you were a young woman of course, we would have a lot more to say, but how many young women are taxi drivers out there?

Oh and not forget the fact that they usually have the radio on, and they are listening to the news. As a music friend, I hate that and I prefer to listen to the music of my choice but that’s impossible, because you have to communicate with the driver and give him directions. And the worst thing? He might make a comment about something he heard on the radio, and ask about your opinion. But I just don’t care about those subjects anyway.

And let’s not forget that after midnight, the price is double. That’s really unfair and they do it for their own benefit and only. They know that public transit is inactive after midnight (except Fridays and Saturdays where they are active till 2 AM. Well, that’s how things are where I live at least), so it’s a good opportunity for them to find a good sucker who is willing to use a taxi to return home.

On the other hand, trains and buses are the best forms of public transit.
The biggest benefit is, there are bus and train stations, and if they happen to be at some popular spot of your area, then it’s a good chance to meet other people or flirt. In taxis you cannot do that, unless you want to socialize with the…taxi driver.

Other benefits are, they are way way cheaper, safer (the taxi driver might be dangerously reckless and you might end up in an accident because of him), less awkward because you are not you and the taxi driver alone, and of course you have more freedom. You can do whatever you want, like listen to music, use your mobile or even eat/drink (OK the latter is not allowed technically, but nobody cares if you do expect some reaaally really stingy people, that nobody cares about them as well).
Only positive thing about taxis is, that they can leave you just outside of your house door…but I’m not that lazy to not be able to walk fifteen minutes from the train station to my home. And I never get drunk either to not be able to walk. So yeah, taxis are just useless for me.
In conclusion, I believe you must be really lazy to use a taxi, unless you are very rich and you have money to kill.
