Planes, trains and busses.

So I needed a moment to get away. So I booked a trip from my home in Salt Lake City to Vegas and back, via San Francisco. We flew to Vegas, bussed to Barstow California, and took a cumuter train to San Francisco, and lastly a sleeper cabin from San Francisco to home. This My Take is a contrast and comparison of the various forms

First the flight to Vegas. I used to love to fly, that raw surge of power and the quiet when the wheels leave the ground. But thise lines, and the security. We have locked ourselves into cages of fear. I get it but its a fringing sardine can and more and more it just wasn't worth it. Legs cramped and no shoulder room at all. Im not a small guy, 200 or more pounds and 6 feet tall. Thank heaven it was only an hour flight.

As Vegas no longer has rail service we (me, my wife and one of our adult children) had to take an Amtrak bus from Vegas to the middle of California. It had more room, how could it not? The seats were comfortable snd I could stretch my legs a bit.

Next was the computer train up California. Again even more room, and some nice views.

But, here is my current view.

Planes, trains and busses.

I write this from a private cabin, on a train as we go ip snd over the Sierra Mountains, current speed maybe 15 miles an hour. I have a glass of wine in one hand and French jazz in my ears. As the breathtaking views pass by my window. This is living my friends, a bed in my room and my lovely wife next to me. Not fast, no, but divinely elegant.

I think I have found my favorite way to travel.

Thanks for reading.
