So, this MyTake was inspired by the question:
I can't add a link yet but the question was: 'What to put in my journal?' By a female anonymous user under 18 and had the description: 'Comment ANYTHING and I’ll write it in my journal'
Usually, I would have tagged the user, by they were anonymous so I couldn't do that.
Now I know this is seen as a thing typically, that teenage girls do, but it doesn't have to be. Anybody can keep a diary/journal. It's not for everyone, I know that but I thought this would be fun to write.
1)Helps You Let Something Out Even If You Don't Want To Talk About It
When I have had a bad day, and I just need to let it out, writing about it in my diary helps.
This is good for people like me, who don't really like to talk about feelings and emotions and are pretty much very private people. Introverts you could say. It creates a sense of relief after you've let it all out on to the page, I like to call this rage writing.
It's like talking about what was bad and why, without talking about it.
2)Helps You Reflect On All The Good Times
Equally, when something good happens I write about it in my diary. For example, my 16th birthday last month, it was just the way I wanted it, small, quiet, surrounded by close friends and my family, not to mention I got some really nice gifts. :P
When writing about something good, it could help you feel even better about something. This is going to sound really weird but writing about something good always puts a smile on my face and makes me feel excited and tingly on the inside. That sounds incredibly strange but that's the best way I can explain it😂
3) Reminiscence and Laughing at Your Past Self
When finding an old diary/journal it's always fun to read, or even reading your old entries in a current diary.
It gives you a chance to see how and if you overcame a struggle of yours, laugh at your pointless rants and smile at the good times you had. It can also make you realise how much has changed in your life.
Once I found an old diary by my 11-year-old self and I wrote about starting secondary school, honestly, it was so funny what I wrote. And considering I was only in primary the people I wrote about just made me realise how much I have changed considering I don't even speak to them anymore, because they went to different secondary schools and with time you just drift apart. At the time I wrote about those people I was clueless about the existence of my current friends which is crazy because now I can't imagine life without them.
4) Could Help You Solve Problems or Realise Something
When writing about a problem you have you can physically see it right in front of you, or writing about why you're feeling down or low.
Writing about possible ways how to solve the problem, or reasons, why you shouldn't feel down or low about something, could perhaps give you a light bulb moment, helping something in your brain click which then may help you solve a problem, or stop feeling down or low about something.
5) Nobody Will Tell You To 'Shut Up' If You Want To Pointlessly Rant
This is a less serious reason as to why you should keep a diary but none the less a good one.
You could go on pages and pages pointlessly ranting about things which bug you, and nobody can stop you from ranting. It's not as if your journal or diary will say to you: "Shut up" you could go on and on letting everything out and not once be told to shut up.
In mine, I went on about how flowers are pointless gifts because they just die in a few weeks, fair enough if they're growing in your garden and you water them to keep the wildlife alive that is okay, but not having someone give you a bouquet of them because they'll just die.
I went on in depth about that for a good 6 pages. Sounds sad, I know, but I have nothing better to do with my time which brings me to my next point. ;P
6) Great Boredom Killer
If you like writing that is. If you're one of those people who does not go places much and just stays at home then writing about things in your diary is a great way to pass time and kill boredom.
Even if you are writing about something pointless, it's still a time killer and when writing you can get so deep into it time passes as fast as a blink of the eye.
And that's the end of this MyTake! :)
I hope you enjoyed, and if you didn't thank you for reading it anyway. <3
Think of any other reasons why keeping a diary can be good? Comment an opinion below :P
Also, comment if you have any pointers for me on how to improve my writing. The general style of this was to be informal, and friendly.
Also if you want to talk about writing feel free to PM me. :)
Thanks again for reading! ^_^
