Let's start with the genus and the species,

Pronounced as psy - like psychology.

Moth just like it sounds the insect moth.

So there are 3 known types in the world, they are marine organisms, that live in temperate waters off the Californian coast, and central and south America.

Little is known about what they do in a water column, when they don't have a fish tongue to hang onto. Got to be one of the strangest niches in the animal kingdom, I can't figure out why the fish does not just bite it's head off.

As you know most Crustaceans are bottom dwelling animals, that feed off decaying vegetation and animal matter, not little Cymothoa, she cuts off the blood supply to the fishes tongue so it atrophies and falls away, and just stayes attached to the remaining tongue and feeds of the fishes blood, till it dies.

How fucking disgusting us that.

Besides being very ugly, the only other bizarre thing about this phenomenon, is that some moron has attempted to take legal action against a fishery, claiming that an infected fish he ate poisoned him. The idiot lost.
