And i am aware i am a teenager too, but i happen to be nothing like that.
Why are teens so immature these days?
And i am aware i am a teenager too, but i happen to be nothing like that.
Well, maturity doesn't naturally hit until 25 brain wise.
But really, it's because their parents sheltered them and let them do whatever they want. My parents DID NOT raise me like I was a child. Since 4 I was already doing chores like vacuuming and by 13 I was taking care of a lot of shit. When I wanted a car, I didn't get a brand new mustang liek my other peers or some other expensive thing, I got a used one that was cheap. It's not because they couldn't help me get anything better, it's because it was the bare minimum for a need and it came with the condition that I would put maximum effort into education and my responsibilies.
Same thing in college. They're willing to help me out, but I must be responsible and perform. Things I use to buy that aren't necessities are done with my money through working. Getting grades as close to 4.0 as possible are expected. I must be responsible with my actions, no drinking (profile pic was at a family wedding), drug use, unexpected pregnancies, copyright violations, etc. I hate my roommates because they were not raised like me and can't take care our suite. They don't clean, they don't have time management and organization. They screw around and don't do anything productive. It's annoying, I have to be the one to take out the trash, restock stuff, and clean or else the place would have roaches.
you have a point, but at the same time you're parents seem really strict. They give you the bare minimum, fair enough, but then expect you to get top marks or else you won't even get the bare minimum? That's hardly fair or adult like either. How is it adult of them to tell you not to drink either, when it's perfectly legal to drink? As an adult you should be able to make your own decisions using your responsibilities, that's what REALLY makes you an adult
the rest I agree with though
i thought teens were MORE mature these days... and i'm glad they have the balls to make fun of the teacher and argue with him.
Basically who the hell is the eacher that they will tell them not to smoke? if they want to smoke it's their choice. the guy who's teacher must shut his mouth and scram. ;-)
PS. I'm 23 just to let you no... so not an "immature teen" XD
Well actually i think the teacher was arguing about smoking in school area, left that out.
It's like asking why the sky is blue. There's probably a scientific explanation but tbh it is what it is.
They are underdeveloped and instead of wanting to mature and understand the world around them, they settle for their cave of stupidity.
I'm a teenager and am nothing like that, either, so I understand where you're coming from, and no you don't sound arrogant because I feel the same way.
It causes pain and problems and teenagers just do stupid things because they don't think about the consequences of their actions.
I promise you, if they actually TRIED they would be able to realize their actions aren't the best, but they decide to turn off their brain because it's easier and society encourages the "teenagers will be teenagers" motto so they feel they won't be judged.
But the universe will works its magic no matter what :) Everyone is responsible for their actions.
I don't think young people are nearly as immature as the adults are!
I've yet to meet one adult who doesn't say/do cruel things to people, lie, do drugs/alcohol (about 80% of the time), cheat on or lie to their partner etc. This is the 21st century; the immature behaviour you're talking about applies to people into their twenties and it can still be seen as totally appropriate... But, I'm talking about adults I've met that are 25+, and they STILL act really immaturely.
It's just when people get older, they learn how to HIDE their real habits better, that's all.
Also, I like how the kids you were talking about were honest with the teacher; much more appropriate than adult people lying to each other's faces about everything :p
So, my point was that it's not just teens or a particular generation acting in one way; many. many people who are double, or even triple their age can act way worse.
It's just a phase where we all could get away with being immature but it's natural I guess. Their minds aren't mature enough and they don't care about anything they do. I wasn't very immature in my teen years, but didn't care what people thought. I mind my own business most of the time unless they got in mine. Good for you, you didn't get dumbed down or needed to be someone you're not by acting silly like them. It will pass, hopefully, some people never change and stay immature, sad but oh well.
Every generation in history thinks the generation younger than them are immature. It was socrates (a greek philosopher) who said "“Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.” "
Yes, but i happen to be younger than some of them, and i still think they are immature.

These days?
You know teenagers have always been like, idiots right?
This isn't a metaphor or some kind of secret code, I literally mean every bit of it when I see teenagers are completely lacking in IQ and brain activity. They do the dumbest shit and for reasons they don't even know.
The stupidity is VERY real.
Do you even know what IQ is?
@notverycreativeguy
Yeah, I'm aware I used the term incorrectly, I just felt like using it if we're gonna be honest.
Well, one thing is the media makes teens think it's cool to do this and that, along with all these stupid fucking tv shows nowadays, like, does anyone else remember a time when Animal Planet actually had good an educational shows? I remember Meerkat Manor, that was my favorite show, ever.
I'm the same way you are, while they are acting "cool" I'm planning my future, I've picked out a college, thought about money management things like that, sorry I got side tracked, in modern society teenagers are encouraged to act like they are 5 years old, this is caused most likely do to poor parenting, they my believe that they should be nicer to there teen than there parents where
They're encouraged to be immature.
A few hundred years ago, they would have been treated as young adults, and given responsibilities and privileges of adulthood, and spent their time around adults they weren't necessarily related to. They would have been less mature and still developing than other adults, but at least they'd be on that path.
Nowadays we expect people to behave like well behaved children till they're done grad school and maybe their first intern position.
I noticed that too. I think the media seems to focus on immaturity and stupidity and glorifies it. The teens see this and think that it is "cool" to act like that.
I'm willing to bet teenagers have been immature since whatever time period it was that they stopped having responsibility. Way back in the day, when families relied on both the children and parents for income, teens were probably mature as fuck. Nowadays, we really have no responsibilities. I'm willing to bet that if adults didn't have to work super fucking hard for rent and food and all that, they'd probably be immature too.
Teenagers have always generally been immature. Chances are the ones asking those dumb questions were a small group of them.
If they're not immature in one way, they usually are in another. I was.
Cuz they wanna be "kool" while in reality they make themself look like idiots. A bunch of bratz that wanna be "popular" lel
Thank you. There is someone else besides me. People my age are immature, annoying, and make bad life choices without thinking about the consequences of the actions.
These days lol? Teens have always been immature, thats what being a teen is all about. Being immature and not giving a shit.
Yes, but these days they seem to be even more immature than lets say 100 years ago. why this generation?
Something tells me you weren't around 100 years ago lol. I'm just comparing to when I was a teenager, I see no difference. But how immature someone is really depends on the individual, you can't really generalize the entire teen population.
Their parents spoil them with ipods, hi tech computers and xbox... I personally think they lack manners and the in ability to think creatively.
I'm sure young people have always been relatively immature
They always are, always were, and it's because they are teens.
Trying to act mature is a sign of immaturity. Just be yourself, and enjoy life.
That's because our generation sucks.
I agree.
They've even dumbed down cartoons. XP
yeah what kind of childhood is it not being able to grow up with the simpsons or south park. they still run them but its not the same
Very true.
Exactly
Yes because I'm sure Tom and Jerry, with absolutely no dialogue was the epitome of intelligent, stimulating cartooning.
Its better than what they play now. Adventure time, regular show, teen titans go, they're so stupid. They ripped off the original teen titans.
@been_waiting Was that sarcasm? Hard to detect from text, but if it was, Tom and Jerry was great and you don't need dialogue for something to be stimulating.
Exactly. But they've even remade tom and Jerry.
y'all are how old? What "other days" do you know to compare to "these days"? People just romanticize the past. cartoons have always been mind numbing and teens have always been immature. It ain't new.
@been_waiting yeah, but its getting worse with all the recent technology
Same thing, different century.
Girls mature faster than boys, or so they say.
Yes, but what is it when it's girls too?
You are special :)
Teenagers have always been immature.
huh u probs not cool
Depends on what you consider "cool"
why isn't that they arnt so not kindof maybe unmature
