When someone points their finger in your face and won't stop, are you justified in whacking it away?

Say you are arguing with someone. They point their finger in your face while you're arguing. You ask them several times to get their finger out of your face. They don't, and instead, they move it closer and start wagging it. You whack their finger away with your hand. Did you just assault them or were your actions justified?

Had a guy did that once to me because i failed a quiz because i had no time to study, boy did I twist and slap his finger away and told him to not mess with me. This is college! I always see things this way , when they are pointing 1 finger at you
point 2 back at them but the actions are justified with finger pointing.

Instead of polling people about their feelings on the topic, why not look up the legal definition in your state's law book (everything is on the internet). No, in my state, it is not an assault. If you still don't understand after reading the code, ask a CRIMINAL defense attorney, not a real estate attorney etc (you get the point).
