In an argument, do you not tolerate your partner yelling at you with name calling?

You and your partner are in an argument, and it escalates and he starts yelling and then says, "why do you have to be such a bitch," or she says, "you know, you can really be a total asshole sometimes!" Do you just keep on arguing or do you stop right there and address the name calling as a point of no continuance.

Yes , my ex started yelling at me over the dumbest things , that’s when I knew the relationship was coming to an end , she was projecting her selfish behavior on to me so I started to ignore her and told her to seek anger management classes , she was a mental case wack job that sadly turned evil on me , because she is a selfish person that only cared about herself. When she started yelling at me , I told her I don’t talk to people that can’t speak appropriately to me whatsoever , so whatever you are yelling about , sounds like bunch of noise to me so I am not listening to you , cuz you sound like a friggin wack job , she hated that shit , cuz I gave it right back to her in a calm stern way , I would tell her There is no reason to yell when I am 2 feet away from you whatsoever , so I would walk away and then tell her maybe I can hear you now , since I am in the other room and I can maybe hear what you are saying. She would smash shit in the house and storm out the door , I told her don’t come back until you get help. Of course she would come back and apologize , This went on for a little over a year until I had enough and told her it’s over , I realized I couldn’t be in a relationship with someone that was constantly miserable and negative about things , the last big fight we had my son called the cops and they took her away and put her into a mental institution because she was flipping on the cops as well. That was my final straw with her and told her to leave that I am filing for a divorce , it wasn’t just because of the yelling it was other things as well , but I knew I had to get away from her crazy ass. She begged for me back but I didn’t give into her for a long time until my Mom and oldest brother passed away , she stood by my side and I gave her another chance , dumbest mistake I ever made , things were good for awhile until she decided to be selfish again , Now we are no longer together but still mutual for the kids’ sake , the good thing is she no longer yells now that we aren’t together

Name-calling and emotions are not allowed in my family. I will slap the shit out of anyone that does that and verbally berate them before it comes to getting the shit slapped out of them.

Yelling is for weak arguments... I understand it's natural to raise your voice when one feels that they are not being heard... so reassure that you hear what they are saying and understand it before proceeding. Two people yelling at each other just looks like a retard party to me and they might as well sit at the table and have a food fight like a couple of retarded kids.

I usually don't slap the shit out of people... I roast them with humor and even they will start to laugh at themselves. It's all just stupid bullshit at the end of the day. I guess humor and superior logic is a combo I use... but I listen, and try to be empathetic at all times. I accept it when I'm wrong and work it out. Someone not listening though can be a major hurdle when you have to deal with someone doing that... then I'll mentally slap the shit out of them and if they still don't get it... slap the shit out of them.

Yes, it's totally normal to yell and insult during argument if not that's literally not an argument... How can you call something an argument if there's no yelling?

It's also good to yell and say what's on your head if not you end up getting bitter

Sometimes emotions run high and people raising their voice naturally occurs. Sometimes we can't control our emotions. Although it's more mature to control them and never raise your voice no matter what scenario you're in, it sometimes slips out. I don't mind if they raise their voice once in a while, but what I can't stand is name calling. Just blatant insults. If you're in a relationship where you care for your partner, then you should never want to put them down. We have enough stress in life as is. We don't need to come back to a partner that stresses us even more.

In the heat of an argument, people often say things they wouldn't normally say. I am sometimes called something bad. I just shrug it off. Remember the old adage...

What bothers me more than name-calling is when she says something like "You always do that" because I don't ALWAYS do anything.

Oh it's difficult to tolerate those ones, name-calling is really off-limit to me, both in the saying and hearing. I don't mind energy spikes in anger, they are contextual to a personality, but when it reaches the point of name-calling, in my experience it says I'm facing someone unloading a lot of dogshit on me. Some of that jazz is directly for me okay, but there are also all the songs from her past I'm hearing at the same moment.
