Just don't wear anything. Whenever you get into water, it suppresses your period. "Women who go swimming while on their period find that they don’t seem to bleed in the water. The explanation for this is simple. Your period does not stop since the coating of the uterus continues to shed. However, due to the counter-pressure of the water, the gush is impeded and does not enter the water. Additionally, if you are floating or swimming in a horizontal manner, the gravity cannot pull the flow down and out. Gravity isn’t strong enough to pull it out when you’re standing in the water, so it makes sense that if you further counteract gravity’s effects, it won’t be able to draw your flow out. The moment you stop swimming and stand upright for a couple of minutes, your period will continue exiting normally. "
Just make sure once you get out of the water to take a break, run to the bathroom to put a pad/tampon into your bathing suit bottoms until you're ready to get back in the water for awhile.
I've went swimming so many times while on my period.

You're gonna have to get used to tampons - sorry! I know they can be intimidating at first, but once you get used to using them you will prefer them to pads, guaranteed. I can't stand pads because I feel so gross wearing them...
You can still go in, and to avoid leakage you should excuse yourself to the bathroom from time to time.
Thats what I suggest to my candidates in my lifesaving courses when they refuse to wear a tampon.
Obviously i don't know much about tampons (cuz I'm a guy). But I'm just curious, what's so bad about wearing one? Its like having a dildo in your vagina 24/7. Wouldn't that be pleasurable if anything?

Stick a tampon in ya pussy, swin away. Do NOT wear a pad
If you don't want to wear tampons then don't swim during your period. Do other things like play badminton or squash.
You can wear pads under your bikini. But its only safe on your last days
if you feel comfortable wearing a pad, swim away!
