The wolf has a slower top speed but almost instant acceleration to that speed, whereas the horse needs time to reach a speed faster than the wolf, so the horse needs a significant head start to make it a "fair race."
Also, the horse would only stand a chance on flat ground. In rocky terrain where the wolf lives, the horse will never reach it's full speed or even half. The wolf will slip up a rocky fucking crag like it was an escalator and tear the horse's throat out from a blindside it didn't even know it had.
I don't know the science but I'd say a horse. They have longer and stronger legs, like they can sleep standing up, a wolf can't do that. I'd also say that their body structure is more robust than a wolf's body, which is related to the canine family. Most likely they can run a longer distance than wolves can. Like look at those horse races lol they can run for awhile.

So the average horse probably can't outrun the average wolf. Both animals also have a lot of stamina and are able to cover any miles in a day (mostly at slower speeds though). A pack of wolves could easily take down a single horse. I doubt they could defeat a herd though.
The horse can outrun the wolf no doubt. It's strides are longer, their bodies are more powerful, and even if It got tired, horses can walk around or run in their sleep.
by the way, if you had to choose to be kicked by a horse or a wolf, which would you choose and why? I for 1 would not enjoy the force behind a horse's kick so imagine how much force is put behind a horses canter.
And I really love it when my Dremora starts screaming "I smell weakness!", charges it with that great sword over his head, then literally right as he brings down that first swing, never mind. The damned horse got all the glory. Again.
We just got a PS4, and I'm finally getting the chance to play, via the remastered version. But it kinda sucks because it has ALL the same old PC version bugs, and no access to console controls. I've had to restart back to Helgen a few times.
In the real world Horses would be able to run faster than a wolf, but it couldn't outrun the wolf due to the wolves talent in basically running their prey until their desired prey legs fall off. Yes but the horse is nothing to sneeze at either, it could simply kick the wolf once with its powerful legs and basically one shot it. But if we're talking about mythology (fantasy) based, I would have to say a Wolf hands down. Simply because of Fenrir, the god eater. Yes I went there! Feel triggered yet horse lovers? 😂😂😂
While it depends on the fitness, and breed of both animals, as well as the terrain on which the two travel, a horses top speed is better than a that of a wolf. However, a wolf is more agile and better able to navigate difficult terrain in most instances.
A wolf will eventually catch a horse since it has way more stamina than just about any animal. On some show, (That's Incredible maybe?), I saw a sprinter beat a horse for 25 yards, (the man lost at 40 yards) which makes me think a wolf would beat a horse for short distances, too. At peak speed the horse is faster.
Interestingly, a man can track down a deer, since the deer tires out faster.
Wolves are faster but would typically never attempt to take down a healthy horse because a healthy horse would be far too dangerous and risky. Even as fast as cheetahs are they will only ever go for sick or injured or slow animals because high-speed pursuit's are so dangerous and healthy animals are far too dangerous to try to take down.
A gray wolf which is the most common species of wolf in the US can run at speeds of 31 – 37 mph and 40 mph is the top speed they can run at.
Most horses run at about 25 – 30 mph but they can do it for longer periods of time so it is possible that as long as it doesn't get cornered it could outlast a wolf. Some horses have been seen to run at top speeds of like 55 mph if I remember right.
If the wolf cannot manage to catch up to the horse in a short amount of time, then the horse will win. It depends on the distance run. Long, the horse wins. Short, the wolf does.
If it's a game of predator vs. prey, a single wolf would have little chance of chasing down, much less killing a fully grown horse
Race horses have a top speed of 40-48km/h. Wolves have a top speed of 50-60km/h. So no, a horse cannot outrun a wolf. Besides being faster, wolves can hold top speed longer and can maneuver a lot quicker than a horse
Horse wins, hands down- It's faster, it has more stamina & it's usually inhabiting areas that wouldn't offer any advantages for the wolf. (after reading that other opinion I wrote 'wold', too, orz.)

And a wolf doesn't run at 47 mph on average. The top speed clocked for a gray wolf is 44 mph. On average they run at 31-37 mph (though some sources say they can run up to 35-40 mph).
@Nyx_85 If the world record is 55 mph then the average is not 55 mph which is incorrect. I'm not saying a horse is faster than a wolf or the other way around, just that horses don't run 55 mph on average, that's abnormal
@Nyx_85 So one horse runs 55 mph. That means horse*s* don't run 55 mph, and certainly not on average. I'm not confused but maybe we're in agreement with each other. The dude saying horses run 55 mph on average is wrong no matter how you spin it though.
Plus, there's other factors. Horses are here animals, they don't tend to really know what they're doing in a calculated and planned way after the initial burst, if they don't have they're friends around.
Wolves, are intelligent enough to not begin the chase until they've weighed the terrain, likely target, optimal window to instigate the chase. They are stealthy, and use the confusion to their favor, in addition to the endurance.
Horses are intelligent, but they are not predators. I would never bet againat the predator doing what they do best.
