What annoys you about texting?

It really grinds my gears when someone is bombarding me with messages if I don't answer within a few seconds. "Did something happen?" "Are you still there?" "Are you mad at me?" No, I'm taking a dump, relax.

Another thing that annoys me is when people are too lazy to spell you and are. It doesn't take that much time to type you instead of u and are instead of r.

There are plenty more things that annoy me because I apparently get annoyed very easily. Please share some of your pet peeves so that I won't seem so petty. 😅

HOMOPHONES!!!
My biggest pet peeve in texting or any written communication is when people don't know which homophone to use. It drives me crazy. I'm not saying I'm perfect and never slip up just not paying attention, the people that constantly mix those up will actually make my eye twitch, not even kidding.
Examples -
Your and you're
Their, there and they're
To, too and two
Hear and here
Where and wear
Whether and weather

And the next most annoying thing to me is when people type phonetically how THEY personally say the word. If you have to sound something out that's not an issue at all to me but please let it be the common pronunciation!
I once had someone hand me a check for like Two Hunnit Fiddy Dollars written out, or something like that.

There is also the "me" and "I" thing that makes me a little annoyed, when I see "me and Adam are doing xyz" no dude. No. "Adam and I are doing xyz."

I hate sentence fragments and run on sentences. Again, I do this at times but it's not the only way I can write. Sentence fragments are annoying when you've sent multiple questions/ texts and the other person can only be bothered to say yea, no or sure. Like wtf are you answering? Use your effing words!
Then when you come across run ons it's hard to organize the other persons thoughts so you can make sense of them and answer.

I hate it when I've written out multiple sentences, took my time to explain something or discuss something and you can't be bothered to send a full sentence. Just "ok" ooo or better yet "k". My god, could you be more lazy? I'm sorry to have disturbed you from whatever important task you were so busy doing before.

It's texting not an essay. Lol of course a lot of people aren't going to spell the whole word, it takes less time so they just put u and r. Haha anyways this is why I really don't like testing much cause I feel like it's ruined communication amongst others. People be sitting there with their friend and have no idea what to do or say but as soon they get back on that phone, they can have full blown conversation? People getting paranoid thinking the person doesn't want talk to them, which you can't really blame them cause people will go cold turkey on a conversation. People do it all the time if they get bored or just don't want to talk to that person, that's why they send 10 messages before you can reply. If you really don't want to talk to me.. just say so. People will drop someone cause they feel like someone messages to much or too little which leads to confusion cause the person thought everything was going on okay. So if someone wants to really talk to me, not just a chat, then they need to pick up the phone and call.

I feel the need to vent in this post because I am currently dealing probably some of the most irritating texters. There's the one whom is on the verge of stalking me and decides to spam messages even when I don't respond. There is also the guy that texts, "Did I annoy you or something?" "Want to hang out?" "Are you single?" constantly when I have been polite about letting him down. Also, I don't expect the most flawless grammar when I get a text message, but if someone is messing up their/there/they're or you're/your, I automatically cast them aside.

I can handle an abbreviation once in awhile but when there's one in almost every sentence it bothers me. I understand people can't text me back right away but I don't like waiting hours, sometimes days. I also hate when I get nothing but one word answers.

They expect me to have the whole conversation. An example, "how are you today?" Response "good."
"Any plans for tonight?" "No." Then they keep expecting me to ask more. They never ask how I'm doing or if I have any plans. They never ask me anything. Eventually I run out of things to say.

Another when they leave and don't inform me. I send a message and 3 hours later get a response, "I went to work." At least tell me you're leaving so I know I won't be hearing from you until you're back. That's different than my first part of waiting an hour between texts. The first part is they're just too lazy to text. I also hate being ghosted.

Well this is a little off base but one pet peeve is when someone calls and leaves a voicemail that takes forever to listen to instead of texting. What's worse is when someone calls me seven times in a ten minute period. I will see your missed all. Continuing to call me will just get on my nerves. While texting I hate people who use improper spelling and grammar as well as acronyms for various phrases e. g. Ttyl or dtf. My fifteen year old son does all of this. I text a lot for work and I try to communicate just as professionally as if it were an email or any other form of communication.

I hate it when people do not do as you do (I almost fckng love you for that) and that is writing a long text without paragraphing.

I've got ADD (and some sort of dyslexia I think) and it is really hard for me to read a long text, but paragraphing makes it a lot easier for me (and it also makes it more aesthetically appealing).

What makes it even worse is when they can't even form sentences but write everything in one sentence. Without capitalising and punctuation I can barely read it at all.

When I see a question here that really intrigues me but the asker don't use paragraphing or punctuation when writing a long text, then I don't even try to read it.

Fck all of you who does this. It's basic writing manners, I learned it in school and you should have been taught it as well.

I'm hypocritical as hell cause I am honestly a horrible texter now. I will ignore texts all the time because i just don't feel like talking, but get mad when someone does it to me. Like, "I actually feel like talking now so how dare you not respond in 2 seconds even if i go hours without showing you attention, this is my time now." Lmao.

That it's considered needy if I respond 'too soon'. Sorry I replied when I saw your text, I always have my phone on and pretty much it's always in my pocket or nearby so curiosity urges me to check it out!

Also when I can tell the other person is purposely delaying replying to not be needy. It kills the flow of a conversation, especially if it's flirty with a girl I like. I seriously don't care for the perception of someone texting too soon. I respect someone that cares to get back to me promptly. If I feel someone is texting me too much I'll just say 'hey it's been nice chatting but I just wanna chill for a bit so I'll call you later' or something like that.

When I ask something about them and they give really vague answers when we're supposed to be friends (or more). They want us to get close, yet say really vague things when I give details in my answers to their questions.

When they don't text something I can respond back to. Or make any effort in conversation, yet get confused why I don't text back.

I actually like really long texts with tons of them. So when I only get one notification and it's just a few words long after I just texted them tons of conversation material, it sucks.

I generally hate "how are you" texts. If you can't keep a convo going without asking how are you, then your conversation skills need work (like mine do). by the way, I have done all of this, but when I do, I make up for it right off. If I don't, it means I don't want to talk. If people could only read my mind...

Well, I hate when someone says "ya" or "yo" instead of "you", or when people says: "Your so beautiful" instead of "you're so beautiful", "Their cool" instead of "they're cool", or as you said, when someone sends me lots of messages when I don't reply in seconds. It's really annonying because when someone don't reply fast to me, I don't really care. And yes, I'm a grammar nazi, and much worse with Spanish language. Although I ignore little mistakes that anyone can make. Some people usually thinks I'm a literature teacher, haha.

Spelling and Grammar is one, but I can let that slide as long as that person knows they made an error and send a correction text afterwards.

Having my message read, but receive no reply back.
I can understand if people are busy, but to never get a response and have the subject completely change a few days later by them with my message clearly above theirs being ignored.
It just infuriates me.

And for the last of my top three, one word, or worse, one letter responses from people.
How am I supposed to work with that? Not only does it show a complete lack of interest or intellect, it's just disrespectful. Especially when someone is trying to have a conversation with you.

the reason for the abbreviations is it's a language all into itself. it started out as a necessity because people were texting on flip phones to wear a small words could take minutes to type out hence the abbreviations. so even though these days most phones have a keyboard built into the screen the LOL's and smh's had already become a part of texting language. before Voice to Text became part of most phone operating systems I used to abbreviate all the time because I have huge hands and spelling out words would just give me a crap ton of typos.

My texting pet peeves are when people do not use full, grammar rules and proper punctuation in texting and when people do not text me back within a reasonable amount of time; if I am waiting an hour for your response, then you have lost me (if you are busy and unable to respond, then I will "cut you some slack". The grammatical thing with text messages, if someone is asking me, "How are you doing?" and they text me, "how r u?" or something of that nature, then I want nothing to do with them, that is not cool, it is lazy.

A year ago, I went on a date with a woman who was terrible at replying to text messages, I ask her, "How are you?" and she does not reply to me until a week and a half later with a text message saying, "good". I instantly dumped her.

No real peeves, but I appreciate those that text with what I call honest expression. As in you text like you would talk in person. You're not a different person over text or using words you would never use in person. That's why I often text or type words that are grammatically incorrect like "sayin", "tryin" and so on, because that's how I personally tend to enunciate those words in person.

Like I have been annoyed by a people I texted for a period of time, but couldn't hold a conversation in person because of whatever reason. Whether it was social anxiety or they were putting on a show over text and couldn't think on their feet to say the perfect thing in person. A bit lame.

I really hate when guys send "Heys" all the time and act so clingy over text. It's such a turn off. This one dude would always text me 24/7 and he wouldn't get the message that I didn't want to be more than friends. Even with friends, it's impolite to constantly text them when they might be busy. It's also annoying when someone reads your message and doesn't answer at all when you're not even texting them that much (I believe it's called ghosting). Usually the people who can't communicate properly over text can't communicate properly in real life. At least that's my theory.

I'll start with I'm texting with the same person and bout 5 minutes in her dog... 10 minutes later, we resume and 5 minutes, her sons home (25) and has something to tell him. 10 minutes later we resume. Five minutes later, the sky is falling... Now mind you I'm not some nolife, and sitting looking at my computer screen all the while. I've got two cell phones a tablet and a HC. OH MY FUCKING GOD!!! I can write you a book. The main things however are people who act fucking stupid. For instance, one of my friends thought I was being distant. We were standing right next to each other and I told I would text her once I got to class. I shot her a text and said "Hey." She responds "hey. why you texting me in class?" Um what the fuck? In cases like this, I don't text back.
Also I don't like when people don't use at least decent grammar. Basic capitalization and punctuation. Is it really that hard? Unless I am really close to that person, I will lose or will not have respect for them.
Plus people that can't spell out words or anything makes me think they don't give a shit.

The main overall thing is when people cannot initiate or maintain conversation.

I can not stand people using a single letter for a word. Examples: b for be, bee. C for sea, see. P fir pea, pee. R for are, t for tea, tee. U for you. Y for why. I can not stand using two letters for a word with more than two letters. Example: ur for your, you're.
I can nit stand numbers being used for the same word that has a different spelling. Examples, 1 for won. 2 for to, too, 4 for for. 8 for ate.

I know that not everyone is good with punctuations and all, I also make mistakes sometimes, but then, it's irritating when someone writes something without proper punctuations or without punctuations at all. Most times, I don't even understand.

My first thought on that is,"I'm not going to give a so-called bachelor thesis or a master thesis type of a detailed explanation through text. I find my biggest pet peeves are one word responses =/ I associate them with people being upset with me. If you're not upset with someone it still conveys irritation and such. Sometimes your friends just want to know you're okay, and they want to help you out, and you can unintentionally push them away by making them feel they're an irritation or hindrance.

Grammar, grammar and grammar. For fuck's sake, read BEFORE you send!! They're vs there vs their. Bear vs bare. Your vs You're. It's vs Its. Most devices offer spell check and next word suggestions. i dont like it when they read your messages.. take forever to respond to you. .. and you know they are texting mutual friends. As well when they make lame excuses for not replying and taking more than a week to reply!!! Jeez even my grandma can text better!!
