Do you have trust issues? If so what caused it?

My grandma warned me about how bad and untrustworthy people are growing up; I didn't realize how right she was til I went to college away from home in a different state and saw first hand how shady people can be.

The proverbs of the Bible was right all along.

Jeremiah 17:5-6:

Thus says the Lord

“Cursed is the man who trusts in man
And makes flesh his strength,
Whose heart departs from the Lord.

For he shall be like a shrub in the desert,
And shall not see when good comes,
But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness,
In a salt land which is not inhabited.

Proverbs 25:19:

Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble
Is like a bad tooth and a foot out of joint.

Proverbs 20:6:

Most men will proclaim each his own goodness,
But who can find a faithful man?

It depends on the type of person, situation and, environment. My loving and too trusting nature besides abuse from almost all areas in my life caused me to have trust issues. Simply exactly as the scriptures say. Because it has always been my personality to love, nurture and be very open and friendly. I learned the hard way growing up so very young. I had to learn to let some things go into my young adulthood and give it to God.

At least thank God your grandmother taught you early. I didn't have that growing up. You can say that I was 'unprotected physically'. But was protected in other areas in my life, God shielded me from. I am more alert, cautious and weary of people than I was as a very sensitive child. I now use those gifts and the guidance of his spirit as a strength. Not a weakness as I did before.

Wow, the fact that I ran into this post is amazing. I'm currently going through the same thing. This year was my first year going away to college after earning my first degree. I've experienced so much fairness from people. I literally haven't made a single friend. Some time I feel as though being fake is a motive of some people. I've been praying to God that I meet genuine people but it's yet to come... I get lonely and I don't want to attract the wrong crowd of people this way being desperate and such for friendship. People I've met this semester have showed me nothing but being fraudulent. I'm truly learning from this experience

Yes, after learning the closest people can hurt you the worst. For me, it was my family. I always look at everyone I meet with a side-ways view and think "What do you want? What are you trying to get out of me?"

Don't get me wrong. I treat everyone equally and am generally nice, but I never let them get close to me.

Well I was betrayed by my church freinds a few years ago. So I watch who I trust with things and have levels of freinds. I also watch how people react to what I tell them. So I know if they are someone who will sympathys with me or just lector me on what they think of the situation and how I should react.

I don't - my default is to trust people, unless there is something that strikes my gut as 'off' about them, in some way.

In my experience, it's a small minority of people (perhaps around 5% or less) who aren't trustworthy.

I say I have no trust issues cause I only trust people who treat me well and I don't get betrayed at all. I am very good at filtering out those who have bad personalities and it never gets to the point where they can trick me.

Haha I kinda do actually. I think it might have stemmed from my mom cause when I tell her something personal she would share it with her friends.

Also it seems like people are only looking out for themselves. Like they would ask me if they needed help. However when I need help they could care less.

So yeah I do have trust issues unfortunately, so I don't have that many friends. The few I do have tho are my homies and I know they got my back.

Yep! It's from years and years of people breaking trusts, promises, abandoning me. My own blood didn't even bother being apart of my life while growing up. I have serious trust issues.

I don't know if I'd consider them issues, but I'm distrustful of authorities/ claimed authorities. If someone wants to have authority over me they better have a damn good reason, and be ready to prove it.

Some people have betrayed my trust when its not that important and it makes me not trust them with actual stuff but from someone spilling the beans that I trusted, I now have issues with just talking about myself to others.

I judge people based on their actions and if they proved to be trustworthy overtime then I will give them trust.

If they proved to be untrustworthy generally I will cut them out of my life. Honesty is quite necessary for proper communication.
