Do you believe there's usually truth behind a rumor, gossip or suspicion? If something bad is said about someone, do you automatically assume it is probably partly true?

Well... I don't believe so.
I used to going to concerts in a nearby city by myself back in college. I didn't have a car but I was always using bus or Amtrak. I am a huge music fan, that I even went to Japan, Spain, Belgium, Finland and Hungary for music festivals.
This girl came to my life. We happened to have the same music taste. She had a car and she was like I'll drive all the time. I always offered her half of the gas, she rejected. In exchange I decided that I either get her a dinner (more expensive than the gas spent), or a beer (at most because she was driving so not drinking) and pay parking (again it was more than the gas spent). But I kept asking each time she dropped me at home, to calculate how much gas she spent so I can pay her. She always told me no, don't be ridiculous.
Time goes by, I started hearing rumours around that I stole her money, I am using her for concerts and never paying for gas, never offering, I even fucked her boyfriend (who happened to be my closest friend since 10 years and I introduced them to each other). Many crazy things I was definitely not doing or had never done and didn't plan to do in the future.
Needless to say, I cut my ties and stopped talking but her rumours followed me for awhile.
I think there can be a fire without smoke. I agree with Beckham. So I don't take others' opinions so easily before getting to know someone, I don't shape my ideas of others based on some people's negative thoughts.
Oh, yes.
And there can also be fire without smoke... but there's no smoke without fire... (Speaking metaphorically, of course...)
I don't know people can be malicious and slander someone but often there is Some substance to it
No smoke without fire? Puh-lease...

Anyway back to serious mode.
I believe the probability of truthfulness in rumors to be around 50%. There is a reason why it's called rumors!
I wouldn't say it's the case every single time, but I think usually there's at least some truth to them.

Of course there candy smoke without a fire both literally and figuratively, look at how the American people are being scammed about the president colluding with the Russians a total hoax smoke was invented and obviously there’s no fire
It seems to be a pretty standard scientific fact regarding fire. Except maybe not in space, with no air. I forget if stars smoke. (Maybe stardust counts?) Anyway, I’m certain it’s at least always true on Earth.
I hate gossip
Too much unnecessary drama to deal with
Violence is the fire, hurt is the smoke
For physical conflicts...
But for social ones,
Gossip is the fire, there is no smoke for character assassination though
I generally assume that there is something there but I generally try to not change my options about things or people unless it sounds correct for their character or it is proven.
Do you mean opinions and not options?
I'll keep it in mind and see for myself if it's true what they say.
Nope.
I'm very particular about who/what I believe. Even in culture/society practised, I have to analyze cost/benefit before I take things onboard.
Each case is different. There are plenty instances where the rumor is the opposite of what's true.
Nope. Best thing to do is always ask, people will explain their truth always.
no i don't xD women are experts at creating smoke without fires.
No. While it may be the way to bet, there are too many examples of it NOT being true.
Fire always creates smoke. Yeah there is a reason for everything.
No because it assumes guilt on the accused's part without any evidence.
I don't care in the first place.
Yes but not in all cases
No.
Smoke generators do exist.
Yes. I accept the idiom as generally true.
Jealousy is the smoke without fire.
I think thats true.
In some cases, yes.
I personally believe
not always true
Agree
This is confusing
