You are kind of misinterpreting what she is saying. Holding your tongue esentially means that you aren't argumentative. In this case Ursula is saying how the girl who doesn't question what a man says gets the guy. It is a fairly sexist comment but was accurate for the time the movie was set. That being said, I'm sure most respectable men would want a woman who spoke up if she didn't agree with something. After all marriage is about two people making decisions together, not about one calling the shots and the other just being along for the ride.

I couldn't be in a relationship with someone who couldn't hold an in depth conversation with their own opinions that won't always line up with mine, otherwise it just isn't fun. I would only ever date outspoken women as long as they weren't rude or confrontational
No, I don’t think there is much merit to this. Most people prefer to be around others who they can hold an interesting, intelligent conversation with and usually want to have some polite debate. I know I could never be able to be near some ‘yes’ man who only ever agrees with me because that would get dull fast.
Nah. A woman speaks her mind and expresses her feelings, a girl keeps her mouth shut. Relationships don't work out because you don't "annoy" or man or because you're annoying. A man isn't going to want his girlfriend/wife to hold her tongue unless she's just being nasty.

I'm fairly quiet, don't like talking and I got the man. At least in my case it's true.
The interesting thing about that is Ursala is merely repeating something Triton had said earlier, that under his ocean Ariel is to keep quiet and let him rule. Ursula os actually Triton's sister who was also suppressed by Triton during their reign as rulers of the sea.
Mad, alone and resentful, she saw the perfect moment to teacb Ariel a lesson. Ariel chose to be mute, thean fell in love with her her. It symbolizes giving up your voice for another.
Ursula didn't mean it literally, she meant it as a sardonic joke.If a man is shallow and only cares about the way a woman looks and either doesn’t care if she has a brain or opinions, or if he wants a woman who’s submissive and has no mind of her own, then yes. Fortunately, from what I’ve seen men like that are few and far between.
Yep, there's definitely some truth to it. Emphasis on some. Men tend to want someone to play with, so if he wants game, then game you gotta give. But for the most part, it's compromise. If being right matters more than coming to an agreement, your relationship won't last long. They say people high in agreeability make great teammates, and that includes holding your tongue at times even if what you'd like to do is lay it all out on the table.
No. When I was quiet I was never approached by guys. Ever. And when I'm quiet now, guys just stare. When I'm talkative guys take notice and actually talk and flirt with me.
No. The original fairytale proved this because the prince fell in love with a woman who could speak and the little mermaid turned into sea foam.
I mean some people appear brighter before they speak so I guess. Also saying nothing is better than saying something that could be interpreted offensively.
As much as I don’t want this to be true, in some forms it is with some people and even jobs. Women who are too confident and speak out are sometimes judged or discriminated
Some truth to it... Not initially, but reels him in all the way - to the point of marriage - for sure.
Some truth, I find myself never wanting any girl who is quick to insult or talks incessantly
I think this is true if u are talking only about other people or gossiping lol
Sort of. I'd refine that, and say that "It's she who knows when to hold her tongue who doesn't drive men away".
The girl I like is deaf. She doesn't say much, and I'd say it's working.
As long as their are moments of silence I'll be fine I don't mind the chatter but it has to be able to be quiet too I get stressed out by constant noise easy
It's not "not talking" but about what they say and how they say it. Men want women who are kind and don't complain/nag constantly. But no talking? That's just boring. You have to have good conversations with people.
I feel that women who don't talk much usually don't get men, because it's usually the loud women who like to be the center of attention who get men
There's some truth to it. You should think before you speak because you can get in a lot of trouble.
Too much talking is a bad quality, you need to let him speak sometimes too. Being able to listen to a guy is a good skill.
Not that true because I know tones of girls who have a boyfriend, and they’re like a “Chatty Cathy” as some people call it.
Never saw the movie. What's this tongue holding thing about, some kind of gag reflex thing?
