I said no, I don't believe life begins at 40. Your're still working. You still have to commute to a job every day. If you've managed to hold onto a job, that is. You're still trying to keep from getting laid off. There's still decades of work until life truly begins - 62 and retirement. Then you're truly free from working and commuting. If you've worked and saved enough for retirement you'll find you have more $ than when you were working. I don't have enough hours in the day to do everything since I retired.
Every period in our lives has its own joys.
My personal opinion is that life begins in our 30s.
Physical activity is better when we are young. We have a devil may care attitude but are stupid/naive even though we don't realize it.
We are wiser by 40, which is a really good thing. At that age we are also, hopefully, still really physically and sexually vital.
In some ways, it's also good when we are old enough to retire comfortably.
And like to think I'm not stupid, my age has nothing to do with the decisions I make, it's my experiences that make the difference. Aha
@Curiousblp, every teen in history has thought they knew it all and had it all figured out. They think their parents are stupid and/or clueless. I was certainly no exception.
I used the word stupid as a form of verbal short hand meaning lack of experience and knowledge. I didn't mean "not bright" as in IQ level.
At no point in my life did I ever think I was stupid in the sense I just described. But as I got older I would look back at various mistakes I had made, various attitudes I had, and realized that I had been wrong. I can look back at every point in my life and see that I was never as "smart" as I thought I was at the time.
The point of life is to learn and grow as a person. We learn through experience.
No we are learning from experiences from early ages. A five year old touches something hot and now knows not to touch the stove, iron, etc. Life is all about learning and we start living that life way before 40
I think the saying comes from a certain freedom one has with the maturity to recognize when other people's opinions don't matter.
No. Life begins the moment you're conceived in your mom's womb. Life happens when you're born into it.

I believe there's some truth to this. If I'm not mistaken, I think this saying applies mainly to men and its to with the idea that at midlife a man begins to grasp his true responsibilities in life and he decides what he should focus on for the remainder of his life. This age of maturation gives him a more practical outlook in life and encourages him to make more informed decisions.
I mean this would have been how guys were like in the past... not sure about now... men today seem to want to behave like children right the way up to their deathbed. 😅
Yes. Before 40 I had a miserable life in school, then a crappy life working long hours at menial, unfulfilling jobs. Then I retired at 40 (disability) and now have all my time to find self fulfillment.
yeah but Generation X makes 40 look younger than the Baby Boomer made 40 look
No, our saying is 40 with no doubt. I think that mean knowing what is life.
But I saw many old people were frauded when they get retirement. I think they dont know how it work. They fall into empty desire and want to get that back then fall deeper. God stupid
No but there’s different stages to life & you know way more at 40 than 30. It’s different for each person too. Depending on their experience
By 40 you have gotten over all the young BS, and maybe on track with a 'Career'!! So some kind of different life, happens, after 40. More rational, reasoning, understanding and maybe forgiving of past wrongs, or penance for past sins. . .
This is another false encouragement of rulers of societies for people so they could keep living the lie never question anything & findout this all just a BS.
It really does maybe because most big things in your life are more settled
things like this make people miss out on half of their life expecting everything good to come when all this experience has been left out. Life can (truly) start at any age.
I suppose important aspects of it probably do. Things can begin to gel and your perspective begins to clear in ways it did not before.
Nope, that's just shit some old person made up to make themselves feel better about wasting the first 40 years of their life.
Old life begins at 40. Life begins when you're born. School life begins when you're in school. And so on.
Life begins at 12 or 13, but it continues well past 40.
Very true
Nope, to a large extent. Life really begins when you’re true to yourself and live up to it.
Well... I've been there. I don't agree with that saying. It's all about when you start doing things and how much you are willing to try new kinds of work, new people and new activities.
Absolutely not! I'll be surprised if I make it to 40!
Life ends at 30. If you haven't accomplished anything great by then you never will.
What a lovely out look you have on life ahaha
@Curiousblp sorry, was that for me? or for lostmoo?
No, not at all. Life technically begins a very long time before that
Only if your kids ruined it before that.
Kid free peoples life has always been a breeze
Rude ahaha
For some people, probably. For me, I'm already happy and working on the future.
Nope. Been 40 and there is nothing good about it. 50 is even more of a buzzkill.
