I have the same feeling about self-defense and basic grappling.
Whenever I see a fight or video of a fight, if there's one guy who doesn't know how to fight back and he just gets beat up and can't do anything to stop it and everything he tries only puts him in a much worse position, I can't understand how that guy managed to go his whole life without knowing how to defend himself.
I see guys who have the self-defense skills of a fucking toddler all the time, can't throw a punch without spinning themselves around, can't throw a kick without falling over, in the clinch they always give their opponent an easy takedown, on the ground they get ragdolled and manhandled, they can't fucking do ANYTHING right.
I've been doing martial arts my entire life damn near, but it never ceases to amaze me how BAD some people are at self-defense.

Thanks to certain shows and programmes, cooking can be seen as a daunting skill to master. Just like anything in life, a lot of people look at the risks before the rewards. I used to be terrified of cooking, what if I got it wrong? Poisoned someone? Messed up a simple dish and feel embarrassed about it all knowing that I've potentially ruined a date?
But then I started to practice and now I love cooking and do most of it at home.
Cooking takes time from going shopping to find ingredients, to prepare and make your meal done.
The convenience of life these days serves us everything. We don't have to work on all processes on our own. Restuarants, cafe' are at every corner. So... this could be an answer.
Personally, I love cooking because I'd like to know what are in my food. Some recipes are easy and cheaper if I cook them myself since I like western food. It's a kind of an experiment. How amazing it is to see raw ingredients transform to another. Like from dough to bread, from milk to whipped cream to butter! You can have fun with cooking. Everybody can.
I genuinely don’t understand this either. My husband can’t cook to save his life (he can bbq like a boss... but can’t use a frying pan 🤨) and it baffles me but all I think it comes down to is disinterest and that someone else has always done it for him so he hasn’t felt the actual need to learn how.
If people are put in the position where they have no choice but to just do it, I’ve never heard of anyone not being able to

Oh lots of reasons. Upbringing didn't involve learning to cook beyond takeout and microwave dinners, terrible taste, unable to follow instructions, laziness, possible problems with living conditions, fear of trying new things (like learning your spices and how to mix it up), expectations ( like guys thinking it's not manly and it's the womans' job to do it or something), etc.
My brother can't cook and it's honestly sad and annoying. All he makes is instant food all day. He tries sometimes but never asks for help so when he ends up not doing something right, he's discouraged from doing it again. Everyone else in the house cooks, but he doesn't ask questions and monitor how it works. I don't understand, ur am adult and should know the basics at least
Less experience, clumsy, less confidence, difficulty with paying attention, Difficulty in remembering or understanding things?
I embarrassingly have caused cheese on toast to set alight and have made an omelette into scrambled eggs.
I used to be good at making foods but because I do not do it regularly, I have lost that ability.I think directions of recipes can drive one to go over the edge
basically people have no patience so the directions of
the recipe doesn't come out as expected and than it doesn't
turn out good. My late Mom and late maternal Grandma
taught me everything i know about making certain foods
i like Lasagna Zucchini basically you use all the same
ingredients you just don't use regular Lasagna noodles
you use Zucchini.Excellent question. Maybe they had servants to cook when they were kids, maybe they can't read the recipe, maybe too lazy to learn a basic life skill.
Heavens - they should be able to bake scratch cookies or toss a salad- my 10 y. o. grandson does both of then and others. You ask the question why people can't cook If you take a good look around you will see that the family unit has been broken down families don't work like they used to I have met a lot of people that can't cook can't clean A house can't manage A house hole with no grandmother and grandfather being around the kids don't learn the basics of life like manars respect I have dated woman who did not know how but neither did their mom
Because it's no longer taught in school and at home it's not passed down from one generation to the next.
Cooking is not opening and heating a box of Mac and cheese ok r ramen or canned soup. Yes a good cookbook is a good start.
Find a old cookbook and a new modern cookbook
Compare on the difference between some basic dishes
Such as pancakes , biscuits , pie crust and bread or cake. Compare on how they are different.Simple
Their view cooking as too much work and ordering Mc Donalds or Burger King is much simpler, i personally think it's being too lazy to feed yourself but to depend on others to determine your dietary intake.
I believe anyone can "learn" to cook, if they want to, at least well enough to make edible meals. But I think being a chef is a gift that not everyone, even good cooks, can learn.
Some people don't have the patience for it. Like my mom would skip measuring and try to cook it faster by using higher heat, which burnt and dried out whatever she was making.
More complicated recipes require practise. But if we're talking about the simplest recipes where there's nothing to ruin, then laziness is the reason in my opinion.
1. Lack of patience and maturity.
2. Thinks they followed the directions (and also go the right ingridients) when they really didn't!If a person can't cook, it's usually due to lack of training at home. It's a real disservice to a child, to let them grow up and not now how to cook.
The only thing I was taught how to cook growing up was meatloaf. When I moved out on my own, I had to learn it all on my own. It really isn't difficult if you follow the directions!
They're lazy and or they have an attention problem, they can't focus on something and they're always daydreaming. For example I'm quite dangerous when cooking since I never turn off the gaz.
Usually because they never learned it. Either, because they don't care enough or because someone did it for them all their life.
I agree, maybe it's a short attention spans or an inability to multi task that causes things to go wrong more often?
My sense of taste is out of wack. It means:
👍 I'm not a very picky
👎 I have a tough time guaging ingredient amounts through taste only.I honestly hate cooking and the kitchen due to growing up overweight from a very young age and I did not want anything to do with food.
