Do you correct people when you say your name wrong?

Because I stopped correcting people like 15 years ago and at least three times in three different jobs I've had this situation happen

"Hey, Nick!, can you come help me" - person 1

"Nick? Why did he call you Nick, Mick?" - person 2

"Why did you call him Mick? His names John" - person 3

This kinda thing both amuses me and frustrates me because remembering so many different names is hard

Try having a Chinese or Japanese or Korean name.

My traditional name gets constantly butchered by people who are unfamiliar with either Chinese or Japanese.

If I were to correct people when they say my name wrong, I'd be doing it several hundred times a year.

This becomes very tiring.

So I usually just use an English name and ask them to call me by that name instead.
It works so much better.
And definitely less stressful.
As now I can actually hear when my name is called.

My name is constantly mispronounced, and misspelled when written. I don't really care, I rarely bother to correct it anymore unless it's something official where it has to be exact.

Well, it's easy to memorize my first name because it's very common in many countries. But getting people to say and write my last name right is an endless battle. 🙄
I used to try to correct them but I gave up. I realized that most people do it on purpose.

If it's someone I'm around on the regular, then I'll correct them most of the time. If it's like a person at a driver thri, who cares

I have a first name that is a fairly common surname, and a surname that's a common first name, so I get called by my last name a lot. I don't bother correcting it, I'm fine with either one anyway.

Yes, even though the way my name is written is more of a problem. I need to correct people about the writing more often.

I start calling their name wrong if they don't understand me despite correcting multiple times

Not always. Most of the time I just let them pronounce it the way they want to.

Always, otherwise they’ll never stop. It’s rare that my name gets mispronounced, but with very few immigrants in my country, it has still happened

Strangely, my best friend at work insists I pronounce her name slightly differently than what it’s meant to be. Even when she’s told me I can correctly pronounce it the way they do in her native Spain, she still prefers me to call her by the English language version of her name 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sometimes people call me Nathan but I don't really care enough to correct them.
