I use HR Block. Doing them myself would save a lot of money, but I feel like that would be too complicated.
Just remember if you pay someone else to do your taxes it’s deductible the following year so save your receipts.
My mom (who is also a CPA) does my taxes.
Awesome & having a CPA in the family is always a good thing.
Oh yes :) I told her she's not allowed to retire until I die because I don't know how to do taxes lmao

I file my own taxes.
I used to do it via TurboTax every year, but (just a few weeks ago) discovered the newly-released SmartTax (by TaxSlayer & the financial-guru Dave Ramsey) and e-filed my Federal & State returns for $49 total. Since I filed a week early, my Federal return was accepted by the I. R. S. on the February 12th itself, when the agency's announced acceptance start-date. (No word yet on my State return from the N. C. Department of Revenue on their side, despite their matching acceptance start-date.)
As for me I use Tax Slayer & have been using it since 2014 & I always search for promo codes to save some money as well. On the other hand I just emailed them because I can’t remember where to find the motor vehicle fuel credit form on my state deductions. Other than that I’m ready to file.
Also remember your tax prep fees are deductible so save your receipts for the $49.00 for next year.
Nice! Thanks for the advice!
2014, too? Well, I started using TurboTax after my 1st job. After switching this year, I had an issue, since my name is hyphenated, but SmartTax/TaxSlayer (like many systems in the U. S.) won't accept hyphens in names. Also, for the I. D.-requirement for direct-deposit, it allowed for U. S. Passports, but had an impractical entry for its issuer. (Instead of having an entry for the U. S. Department of State, I was supposed to put the State where it was issued. Luckily I document everything government-issued, so I have the original envelopes with the sent to/from address. But who else does that‽) Support helped me and said they'd send consequent features-request to their development-team. Hopefully, next year's edition will have all those issues covered.
I usually do them myself unless I have a complicated tax situation. I got tired of going places like Jackson Hewitt because they charge way too much to do the simplest of tax returns. Also we all ways owe because we don't have any yard apes for a tax deduction. Rarely can we itemize so we end up filing married filing jointly taking the standard deductions. I think too many fear the IRS so they are too afraid to do their own taxes. In my opinion paying someone $250 to do a simple tax return is stupid. Also many communities offer tax aide services for the elderly and low income. Someone will do your taxes for you for free.
AARP Tax Aide
I'm blessed to have an accountant for a father. He does that for me each year. But he's like, "Collect all the receipts!" He does some wizardry for me and gets the price down to far less than 35% which is about the norm here for an independent contractor. He can get it down to like 18%.
My accountant handles it, I don't pay anything as I don't make enough but still he gets a bottle of single malt out of me for the service
Cooking the books as they say & your accountant is good than.
I make £6k... taxes kick in at £9,500
i used to do it myself when it was free but now i go through HRBlock
I remember the free days & now you have to invest money to make money as they say.
even for minimum wage workers you have to pay as much as any person now. that's sad
For $50 or less it's easier to get someone else to do it for me.
Absolutely & if you have promo discount codes even better.
I'm having someone do them this year because my medical debt was kind of handled in a way that it might be deductible so I need to get someone who knows what they're talking about to go through it.
I do some of it but i have enough to hire someone for it
If you have a lot hiring someone is the way to go.
I prefer time over money.
Someone my parent know files em. I don't know what i’ll do when i move to a new state
My mom does my taxes. She's in Michigan. I'm in Georgia. She's a licensed CPA. Your accountant doesn't need to be in the same state.
@Prettygurl12 oh wow good to know
The accountant may need to get a special certification to do taxes for those out of state but my mom says that most are certified to do it.
I may or may not file my own taxes. My advisor has advised me to be discreet..
My accountant files them
Perfect & you probably get a great refund too. Nice.
My accountant does it
Cooking the books? Hahaha.
I wish, lol, nothing to deduct though
My dad filed mine 😂
I always remember my dad filing them & one day I asked if he could show me how to file them & he did & I filed my taxes that year & every year since. In fact I’m working on them now.
Yea my dad ain’t show me how. He doesn’t want to be around my kids because we’re in a covid hot spot so he just did them for me 🥺
TurboTax by myself
Nice job Egirl & filing your own taxes are pretty easy knock on wood & as long as you don’t mess them up & get audited.
Thank you dad for double checking & make sure you buy him dinner or something for his services.
