Caroling was a tradition in several organizations to which I have belonged, so yes, I have gone caroling.
One never knows what will happen when out. Usually we went around, sang our songs, got some thank-yous, and went to the next. We did it house to house, and bed to bed in nursing facilities, depending on which year and which group.
One time I was out as safety officer for the group. My partner and I took lead and tail duty, and coordinated safety via 2-way radios. Normally everyone stayed in front yards. Suddenly, all 35 or so of the group went through the door into one house. I investigated.
Inside was a hospital bed, a caregiver, and family. Our choir leader asked which carol to sing, and we sang it softly. Imagine 35 or so people singing in a small den. The person in the bed smiled and thanked us, and we went on our way. The following year we were told that the patient, on hospice care, could not and did not stop talking about that visit. She passed a few weeks later.
The point of this diatribe is not to pat my group, my partner or myself on the back. Caroling brought peace and joy to someone who was about to transition from this earthy plane.
There are other stories that could be told. I will spare you the telling of them.
Go out, make your own memories, your own stories. Bring Christmas to someone who may not believe Christmas will be this year. It is worth the walking, the singing, the sometimes being cold.
Most of all, go out and do it when you can, not for anyone else. Do it for you.
This is greaf
yes... since I have a bunch of cousins and little ones in the family, and my brother ratted on me... " Nathan sings and he does know them all!! " so, I've been stuck with taking them and going around from door to door on the streets around my grandmas' place... lol
Awww that's so cute. Sing us something!
Yes it was years ago now. I was only 12-13. I went with a church group to carol at shut ins. People who couldn't get out. Then we went to the seniors care home. All those that could come crowded into the small auditorium. When we finished there we went down the hall ways to some of the people that were bed ridden. I remember 1 woman who was crying as we sang. I asked a one of the workers why she was crying. Where we that bad of at singing. I will remember what she said for as long as I live. This woman had been there for years & in that time she hadn't had a single visitor. Those were tears of joy. We made that old lady's Christmas a happy one..
Omg. That's so beautiful! She probably thought of that day for the rest of her life
🤗🤗🤗
I've done the Puerto Rican equivalent of this called "Paranda." And it's done with a much larger group of people, everyone with their own percussion instruments, all singing that same song while we walked from house to house. It's almost more like a parade of happy drunken people. 😂.
Lol that sounds like a blast
Definitely 😂

Oh yes! When I was staying with a family in Romania, we went caroling from door to door. I had zero clue what to sing but just being a part of it was amazing! In general I was so impressed by the amount of the collective effort that went into all holidays I spent with my Romanian friends.
No. But I want to
Did it as a young teen, ride a hay trailer around being pulled by a tractor while singing.
Usually didn't have to even ring the door bell, people would come out to watch.
Love that
When I sing in the shower I scare the water so if I’m going to go caroling I’ll make sure I do it in a deaf community.
Lmao omg
No I haven't. Seeing all of these posts about Christmas is really making me look forward to Christmas.
Lol asking all these Christmas questions is helping me to not become the scrooge that I normally am lol
Actually, yes. In fourth grade, my class went caroling around the neighborhood for about an hour or two. I remember really enjoying it, especially because we got leave school for a while. 😄
Awww I would've loved that! I was in choir and we didn't do that. We were on the news once tho lol
I'm not sure, maybe once a LONG time ago!!
It's not easy carrying all those drums door to door in the dead of Winter!
I bet
Not really, not a tradition where I lived, though I have been singing in choirs at senior homes as a kid and at Christmas markets, so much fun :D. If caroling was a thing here, I would probably had gone for that too.
3 major reasons this will never happen ever.
1. My face.
2. I sound like a wounded animal and I don't sing ever.
3. I'll never again sing a Christmas song.
Lmao
No, my voice is not made for singing,
I would get embarrassed!
Awwww
Haha, Thank you! ☺️
yes with my school when I was in high school. We would go to old age homes and sing to the old folks.
Love that
I sang many carols in highschool because of my Japanese class. We sang in Japanese of course : )
I've always wanted to but I never made the cut to join any caroling group or choir because I suck at singing.
I think maybe once or twice as a kid at the nursing home, but I wouldn't do it anymore because I'm a terrible singer. 🤣
I've done a few pub caroling nights and a Plygain once which is the same as caroling but done between 3 to 6am
No thankfully. Forced to midnight mass and church at times but never that then again i am sure i would take that over midnight mass anyday.
yes when my kids where young. I took my kids door to door and sang to anyone that would open their doors
I drive by and throw eggs and used tampons at them.
You're disgusting lmao
Lol me either
Yes. We start our private caroling group with enough drinks inside.
I'm not religious, do not believe in a god of any description. Imagine! Even though they sound nice at times I will not participate for what they represent. One thing I do accept is we should treat others as we would have them treat us, and you don't need religion to see the sense in that!
Imagine all the people sharing all the world, no need for greed or hunger!
Ooookay
