Why do some people believe that zodiac signs/astrology are actually real?

Basically you are believing that the day a person was born affects what kind of person they are. Why would the day someone is born affect who they are? I'm trying to understand why people believe that. Especially in the dating world, you should be assessing your compatibility with someone based on their temperament, personality, interests, etc. not what day they were born.

Same reason people believe in God. Even if it goes against all scientific reason, it's simply easier to live life believing someone or something is control of their lives because they themselves are unable to be.

Depends on the description of God. If you were to say he was omnipotent and omniscient then yes. That usually is part of the standard description from people.

If you were to say God is simply an entity that created the universe and that's absolutely all there is to it then I'd be able to come to terms with believing it from a scientific standpoint. Well it's also scientifically possible to say he is omniscient and omnipotent if our universe was a simulation and "God" was the creator of that simulator.

Well yeah I think most people who attempt to have a sound philosophical proof of the existence of God would say that he is the "unmoved mover", and point to how statistically improbable it would be for the world to be properly functioning as it is without there being an unmoved mover.

If someone wanted to defend their stance that zodiac signs have significance, they would need to collect data on people who were born on certain days/have certain zodiac signs and do a statistical analysis showing that each sign statistically showed character traits that were expected based on the given zodiac sign. Which I'm sure wouldn't be the case

I don't know. I noticed nowadays a lot of people can reject you coz of your zodiac sign. They read somewhere: don't talk with gemini, because they are very toxic (just example). And they believe that.. Ofc some gemini people can be toxic but not coz of zodiac sign.. I can admit I like reading horoscopes, because some stuff became true. However I don't believe in this rejecting people coz of zodiac sign.

I don't know how many do, to be completely honest. But for those that do, they probably still want something to believe in. They want something that can help them to understand why they are the way they are and to give them hope.
