As a 21 years old that's trying to save up for my own place is it best to get a house for sale or a house for rent if I only make $14 an hour?

What do you expect to buy? At best you'd qualify for something like a $100K home. There aren't many places where you can find that. Maybe out in the corn fields in some dead blue collar industrial town with high unemployment and tons of crime and drug addicts you might find something you can afford. The median price of a home in the U. S. is now $408,100.

I don't see how you can buy a house as $14 an hour is not even a real living wage. You house payment would probably be more than you make in a month. On top of that you have to pay utilities, insurance, internet, and property taxes. Then there is food, medical insurance, and a lot of other expenses most people don't think about. Even renting at this time is not cheap, depending on where you live of course.

It depends on what you want. It’s better to own or you are throwing your money away. Unless you only want to live in the place short-term. Leaving then is easier, also not responsible for repairs. Owning is easier with a nest egg as things do break and repairs are costly.

You'd be better off getting a house for rent and finding roommates at that rate.

what state? How many hours do you work? Indiana you could rent a house making $14 an hour. All income would be going to that.
