Do women these days obsess about status more so than women in the past?

Sort of. I am on the same line of thought as the other guy.
Roll time back 50 years and meeting people significantly outside your social circle required some sort of event. It could be a club, festival and so on. But you had to do something and then actually find that there.
Now? While this is simplifying you could match with a person, profession, income, so on of your choice within an hour or two and have them on your, or you on their, face by tonight. The ease of access also change expectations.
As for personally getting status that too is more accessible and easier to measure and compare than ever. No matter how we want to measure it. Most popular artists now? Ed Sheeran and Dua Lipa are hitting the top listened to for this month. Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylie Jenner top IG. Want something more close to home? Near everyone has linkedin and you can browse there. There are services to see how your earnings compare to any area you want - including your neighbour.
Might not be women but rather that society at large is highlighting it.
I saw a post the other day of a hot woman way out of this guy's league and the guy himself was literally homeless while she wasn't. She had a job he didn't. Now 10 years later they've got 3 kids and successful lives.
If that don't give you hope nothing will.
And to answer the question. No it's the same as it's always been some care, some don't.

Im sure they cared about status back then as well but they have more ways to promote themselves today with the internet.
No. If that was the case you wouldn’t be seeing so many successful women with bums.
