Are Women Meaner Today Than They've Ever Been?

Based on some of the comments I've read recently, as well as articles and other opinions, I think women today are meaner, more selective and quicker to reject guys than ever before. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, but I wanted to ask you if you think that's true.

From an evolutionary standpoint  there was a time in history where women had to be selfish for self-preservation purposes.  They had limited freedoms and could easily be overpowered and harmed by men. So they had to rely on manipulation, their sexuality and scheming to improve their circumstances. They also had to rely on men to protect and provide for them. So they are always looking to use men for one reason or another. If they determine the man is unsuitable for their needs then he quickly becomes expendable (regardless if he is a threat or not).  This is hard coded into them subconsciously and many don’t even realize it. I’ve seen even the best women in my life demonstrate a certain degree of this behavior. In modern times it is now unnecessary, unfair and extremely counterproductive to “gender equality”. But again this is hard coded into the female psyche. Fair or not men have to accept the ugly reality of this and realize they are expendable once a woman determines she finds no intrinsic value in men. Most women only act “loving” when there is something in it for them (they find the guy attractive, he has resources, he has status or it improves her “optics” to be associated with him).  I don’t think this will ever change in the near future. It’s also no surprise that men have 4x suicide rates compared to women. If we don’t live up to “expectations” by society (which is really Freudian expectations of what is attractive/valuable to women) then we our very existence is considered meaningless.  The only thing I want from women is to quit being in denial about the double standards men vs women face on this and  respect what men have to go through.  Respect doesn’t mean you have to date men or even just be “nice” to men for the hell of it. No it’s understanding that you are lucky to be considered special for just existing vs. men who are not special for existing.  But it means that the more “gender equal” our society has become then the more women are allowed to show their true nature. From what I explained above that true nature isn’t good.

I wouldn't necessarily say that women are meaner today than they've ever been. For example, around the early 1900s, Belle Gunness murdered at least 14 people, though it has been suspected that she murdered both of her husbands, all her children, and random guys who went to her place in response to personals ads. She is probably not representative of the average woman of the times, however.

In general, I think a lot of the "meanness" that guys observe from women is necessary self-preservation behavior that arises when losers like you, @Billlewis , try to observe their doings or even to try to be noticed by them when it's completely unnecessary. Women can't do anything without creepy guys making stuff weird. And when they expect a guy to be decent before making him a part of their lives, they are accused of being no more than female dogs (usually using a term that starts with the letter "B"). If I had to go through what women these days have to go through, perhaps my "body count" wouldn't have anything to do with sexual relations.

I can definitely see why one would agree with this, especially if you spend a significant time using social media. In Biology we learn that in a species, one of the sexes will be more picky over choice of mate due to higher “reproductive costs” (producing fewer eggs compared to sperm, gestation). I guess that’s how it is for humans and a lot of other species so you could say that’s something that has been underlying in society? But with more exposure to different choices and media you could say selective nature has increased.

I personally used to give a lot of benefit of the doubt but realised I was being very detrimental to myself by allowing a lot of harmful behaviour. So I’m very closed off and discerning now and I wish I could have a warmer, more open heart but I don’t want to be hurt. I prided myself on being accepting and super open to allow anything until I realised how much pain I was in and I’m just a lot more careful now. I think we need to take care of ourselves by trying to find nicer people, goes for both sexes.

We have to show this nature more often. Men are whining kids, asking for attention, giving nothing in return. There are a few decent men here and there. But nowadays they are a minority.

I am still learning to be a doctor in the future. It requires a lot of time and willpower to sit to the books after a 36-hour shift. And every doctor in the hospital can ask me any question any moment. No one cares how long I am there and how tired I am.

I have a perfect record. I never gave an incorrect answer. No man I ever was with helped me with this, even in the college. They wanted me to come to dates looking fresh and beautiful. I don't hide my profession, there is nothing to be ashamed about being a resident in the hospital. But it comes with responsibilities. And men don't want to even think that I can be tired. Or sad, because the kid I took care of is in terminal phase.

So sorry. You get what you give. If you are asshole to me, I will return the same or even more.

Social media has caused a major uptick in personality disorders, namely narcissism.

People over expose themselves making them easier prey than they were before.

In general, the quality of people has declined.

Feminism made it cool for women to debase themselves and duped women into believing that objectictification was empowerment.

Men take their cues from women and men simply don't see women as worth much anymore.

From my earliest ages, I have been treated with cruelty, abuse, abandonment, deception and ridicule by pretty much every man I took a chance on.

We get bombarded by so many guys desperate for our attention that even as slutty as I am, we have to reject most guys. We have only a finite capacity for friends and friends with benefits, so a lot of guys are going to be unlucky. In the West, yes, and it's not even close. A few things though...1. Western culture is ALL ABOUT being selfish and vapid. Add in the special laws and freebies that have catered to certain groups in the last 30 years, and this should surprise nobody. 2. The rest of the world is just brushing the West aside now with ease... and it's because they know that although the attitudes here have gotten worse and more entitled, they produce LESS now than they ever have before. Families are more dysfunctional, rehabs are full, so are prisons, many jobs can't even find enough applications (the aforementioned laws catering to special groups). So basically they know that Westerners now are all talk. The Russians will release Brittney WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT. They'll harbor Snowden BECAUSE THEY FEEL LIKE IT. The Singaporeans will whip Michael Fay's ass BECAUSE THEY FEEL LIKE IT. The cartels will do WHATEVER THEY PLEASE. In a society that now caters to only 1 or 2 special groups so they'll "feel good about themselves" even if they produce very little... they've made it so they're a joke to be brushed off by the rest of the world. And make no mistake... many immigrant women (my mother is 1) have attitudes... they're no pushovers. But they PRODUCE. Their kids aren't felons by age 15. Almost 80 percent of women nowadays are.
I am a woman too and I see how some women are behaving. How mean they are and how bad they are treating both other women and men. Most men takes the fire. It's terrible. Very terrible.

You might wonder why they are like that, but I believe it's about how they were raised. It's about manners and behaviours.
This usually started at the beginning of life. They way they were raised and groomed.

I think it’s safe to say people, in general, are meaner and less polite. I wish I could say it was something that w could be divided into a male/female ratio but it seems both sides are this way. People just generally lack class, patience, and empathy.

They make snap decisions about a person based on perhaps only a few seconds worth of information or a fragment of insight to them and - often - once set on this course cannot be swayed.

Men say women have led them to be this way.
Women say men have led them to be this way.

In the end, it’s up to us how we chose to exist in the world and absolutely nobody can be blamed for that. That’s ours to own.

I don't believe woman are meaner then they were before. But again there are different types of woman. Not to upset my peers I will just mention 2 kinds of woman. Strong independent woman and weak superficial type.

The strong independent woman will go about her life and be self sufficient and be able to take care of herself. That type of woman when she meets a man will take him for himself. He doesn't have to be rich or poor. For the most part we want him to be working be a loving caring person and most importantly love his family.

The superficial type of woman is probably where you think woman have become meaner. Those type of woman have grown up expecting men to do everything for them and that includes providing for them financially and in every other way. Those type of woman will judge men by the car they drive the job they do and if it doesn't meet their financial standards thats when they dump or reject them.

This reminds me of something that happened when I was schooling.

This boy smacked the super shy and sweet girl on the ass. He was known for doing things like that to girls, and I suppose he thought she would be a easy target. Little did he know she had a hot temper, and she kicked him in the old family jewels so hard that he fell down gasping and crying and he ended up losing a testicle.

She didn't get in trouble because they chalked it up to her not understanding reproductive anatomy or having malicious intent, while he was punished and suspended.

However, all of his friends ostracized and bullied her until she had depression and had to drop out in the middle of the year. We even heard she tried to kill herself from the bullying.

Was she "too mean"? Or do women have to take actions into their hands to protect themselves?

Nah, it's just that decades back women couldn't act on their true feelings because it was illegal for them to own property or assets as a woman. She had to be married and then inhert it.

I mean in a society that's always on the move I'm not sure if a lot of folks are patient enough to even have the time to show compassion (although there's always exceptions to that!). So maybe everyone just seems mean? I mean most people are too involved in their own pursuits which isn't wrong but this might appear as mean to the opposite sexes. So yeah, I dont think people can be outright mean (unless they've had personal traumatic experiences or some underlying psychological issues). Driven people can sometimes seem mean aswell.

I don't think they're meaner, as hostility and adversarial attitudes/behavior have always been more of an impulse or character flaw of the feminine gender. And not even just towards men but towards other women as well. Do not forget that women know this and are proud of it if being this way can destroy others they don't like or hurt their feelings.

So I don't think women are meaner today as opposed to other times in the past. The difference is that acting mean or bitchy has become stylized today, so you have a lot of women doing just that especially the younger ones. They are just feeling more free to show meanness because it's been glamorized as something empowering for women, or even sexy.

I think guys and people in general have not embraced the concept of change so well. The world is different than when our parents were growing up, and accepting and molding yourself with that change is something thing we all should try and think about.
Women have changed, but so have men. We all need to realize that. If you want to be yourself and send out a particular vibe, understand that not everybody is going to want that, but hopefully a few will.

Yes. It's for a few different reasons. Women weren't treated very well though out history that's no secret. Now, we finally have some sense of safety and protection. Women back in the day like before the 60s was more submissive/traditional. Meaning the man leads, and women have to suck up to him no matter what.. they didn’t have a say. I can't honestly say that in real life not internet fiction that I really get confrontational with anybody. Every once in a while a workplace acquaintance may get a bit jealous. Some women don't like any man that won't get confrontational for them. I really am very good at deescalating most situations.
