I am usually in a hurry and I've never been comfortable allowing everyone to see my unmentionables dangling out there in the wind.

My wife and I have a line on our back deck under a roof. We don't have neighbors who can see anything, so that's not a problem.
During the summer, we often hang laundry, particularly towels and sheets, but sometimes clothes. Once they are dry, they are kind of stiff, so we put them in the drier for just a bit to fluff them up. But we save a lot on electricity and propane for the drier by not using it to completely dry the laundry.
Ok, I might try that this summer.
Hanging clothes out to dry used to be the conventional way to do it.
Barring the occasional bird poop nothing smelt better than clothes hung out to dry.
Now with apartments, condos, HMOs many places do not allow that.
So now it is a dryer with stuff to make it smell like it was hung outside.
True! I don't even know what clothes smell like that dried outside.
Maytag even makes a dryer that you hang your clothes in for drying.
It depends on the material honest answer. I hang all my clothes to air dry except for the ones for the cookies lol you know. Everything else like dresses , shirts , pants I hang it to air dry and the material last longer.
My motger in-law says the same thing that the clothes last longer.
It sure does lol I have a shirt I bought since 2016 and still good condition lol
I hang them inside on a clotheshorse (according to Google translate lol)
I use those for wet beach towels.

I only hang my clothes and towels to dry when the weather is warm and dry. If it is wet for too long it gets an odor. Snow and rain create problems in my climate. I only lay them out to dry above 60 Fahrenheit or about 16 Celsius. I only hang up stuff that won't be an eyesore for my neighbors.
This makes sense. I would think frozen clothes turn damp when they thaw and then you would end up in a cycle of clothes that never dry.
Yes, exactly
I do a bit of both really depends on the weather and the season. Having a severe pollen allergy makes me tend to not hang it out in the peak pollen season. But hanging washing outside to dry naturally is actually much healthier. If they're all small amounts of bacteria left after the wash, tumble drying will culture it. Air drying in the sun will even kill e coli.
I would mostly be afraid of the pollen turning my clothes yellow.
Not where I live. Cars, walkways, roofs, you name it, it's covered in yellow "dust" and when it rains there are yellow puddles. Thankfully, I don't have a pollen allergy. 😋
I have hung some intimates in the garage to dry but never outside. Doing that reminds me of the slums and is just because I can't relate to having to do that which is my bad.
I prefer hanging my clothes out to dry. Particularly if there is a lot of breeze and sunshine. The smell is better than any fabric softener.
In cold climates, or during rainy seasons of Mediterranean climates, having a dryer is nice but only if it is gas. Electric dryers ruin clothes.
Kinda pointless to hang clothes outside in the winter. and who has the time to hang clothes out to dry? and why on earth would you want to? toss them in the dryer and forget about them.
I use the dryer with the same attitude. 👿
I hang pretty much everything on the washing line.
only over winter or bad weather I don’t.
although I have hung stuff out and forgot about it, only for it to freeze solid lol
Then it's wet again. 🤦
@TrueConfection yeah at times it’s a tough call to hang out or not, especially when you live in the north of England, near the coast, the weather is fickle.
Also with some girls stuff, it’s not like there is a huge amount to hang out lol
My girl things are dry the next day off I hang them inside. No way are they going outside. lol
What about the sun? Any sun bleaching on clothes?
*if (not off)
@TrueConfection sun , sun , I live in the North East Of England, the only Sun we see is on TV lol
😎 ok, ok
panties, bra's and stocking are hand washed and hung in the bathroom on the drying rack. Everything else goes into the dryer.
Wow! Hand washed even! Not mine. lol
Where I live you're not allowed to do that but if I can get away with it I do it's just because I love the freshness of the fresh air
HOA?
HOA = Home Owners Association
Clothes dryer. Florida's high humidity means that damp clothing hanging outside isn't going to dry quickly- if at all.
Makes sense. 😂
Hang it to dry, saves tons of energy and the clothes smell better.
That's what I'm told.
i hang them to dry. because that's more eco friendly and also a dryer wears down your clothes, so they break faster. i hang them inside the house, not outside.
and it's of course cheaper. i don't see why i should pay for a dryer and the electicity it costs. because it's not like it safes me a lot of time. i don't need to actively make the clothes dry anyway. they dry passively anyway.
Do you keep the same clothes for a long time?
yes i do. i wear clothes till they physically break or untill i'm convinced that they will never fit me again.
My mother in-law hangs everything and always points to the lint trap in my dryer telling me that's proof the dryer is wearing out my clothes.
exaclty. i mean what do you think this lint is? certainly not dust from the air :D
Mostly dog hair? lol
I have had a few items fade or pill.
dog and cat hair end up in the washingmashine, not the dryer :D
the fading can also be due to washing wrong colors together. or just washing generally does that too, i think.
I live in the desert so we hang out stuff out to dry
I'm sure it dries fast!
Desert air dries clothes faster than the dryer does
@Charliefretz329 I lived in the desert. Pool towels would dry in a few hours INDOORS. 3😂
@TrueConfection yep, spent a year there and agree
Amy, how do you keep your sinuses from drying out?
No thanks. Too much dust in the air and birds that like pooping on stuff, like hanging clothes.
I'm surrounded by trees. I'd be pretty miffed if I had to rewash something that got bird bombed.
The more trees the more birds there will be.
Looks like home in Italy. We have a dryer but hang out a lot because it’s way better smelling
That picture is actually kind of beautiful.
Yes so many villages in Italy or Sicily r jus like that with r without the clothes..😂
I prefer to hang them when I have the time. They smell so fresh.
I've heard they smell better when they dry outside. Does it make a difference where you're located?
Yes, the country air makes a huge difference from the city. I don’t think I would bother then. I think the sun has a lot to do with it too. I have a friend who always dried her baby's diapers on the line in the sun swearing they would never come out whiter any other way.
For a minute there I thought you were going to say the diapers smelled better. 😂
Until the neighbors burn leaves or trash lol. It’s back in the washer I’d that happens
@Charliefretz329 OMG I didn't even think of that. 🤢
@charliefretz329 Yes, there is that. We have no burn days most of the year. A number to call when allowed.
I am that neighbor. Wood stove in the winter, burn pile in the spring, bbq and camp fire in the summer. 😳
Yep, i speak from experience lol
Its ok to burn lol, i just dislike the smell of trash fires. And it ruins the fresh laundry
i have a space in the attic where i hang my clothes. dryers are just a waste of electricity
Makes sense! The attic is probably the warmest part of the house.
Hang out to dry. Its freaking cheaper
We hang clothes out year round
What happens when they freeze?
I have a clothes line in the basement to
Definitely a dryer, I don't have room for a clothes line in my yard.
You could just attach the end of the line to your neighbor like in the photo.
My neighbor would kill me, we don't get along well unfortunately.. I'm lucky to have a situation where we mutually ignore eachother.
LOL. He might set fire to your clothes.
Definitely a possibility
Sun is the best way to clean anything.
We have ample space, so we dry outside in sunlight.
The Shadow Dweller loves the sunlight.
@DermalPunch This is THE greatest comment I have ever received. Damn... really creative!
I stopped running and laughed hard about like 5 minutes straight!
Sarcasm or real?
@DermalPunch absolutely real.
I don't know anyone who puts them outside. We hang shirts and things inside the house. Hallway to dry.
If I have to dry something like a sweater, I drape it over something inside too.
It depends on the weather and how much time I have available. Hang dry is free and I like free.
FREE is awesome! 😂
Lol like my brother says, my favorite f wors
*word
I like that one. I hope he doesn't mind me borrowing it.
Lol he won’t mind
If the weather could be relied on not to rain as soon as you put it out , yes i would hang it outside.
@Hardman07 If it nice outside on the clothes line..
My clothes line doesn't get a lot of sun so I have a combo washer/dryer that I always use
I've always used a dryer, mainly because there's no real place to hang them out to dry.
i pay someone to do it for me so I don't know what they do
Uh oh! lol
Some things go in the dryer and some things need to be hung out to dry.
I use a dryer. I am doing a load rignt now in fact.
I prefer using my solar clothes dryer. Very efficient cheap to use sunlight and a light breeze.
I will hang my clothes outside to dry if the weather cooperates.
I mainly use an actual dryer. Some of my clothing requires me to air dry it but I do that indoors.
I prefer hanging them out on my Amish rack. You cannot beat that crisp clean linen smell.
conventional dryer, it works at night, on rainy days and when I'm not home
Everything gets hung out by me unless the weather is poor
Hanging out of the conventional way. What are you talking about?
What?
Hanging out is*
I guess if you're 100 years old.
I used to hang outside. Nowadays not
Why did you stop?
Ok, that is a good explanation. 😂
When you air out your clothes you are looking for stealth. You wantz to go hunting.
hunting?
Yes. All wild life has better smell. Depending on the animal, they can smell you hundreds of yards away. So you shower with scent killing soap. Same with clothes. Then you hang the clothes to dry. Air the odors away. You don't know this stuff?
Nope. lol. I put on perfume and head to the grocery store. 😋
Gag is stealing emojis again.
Drakka Nwaaa. Drakkar Noir. Bought me some shower in a can once. Brother comes over. Gives me some Family Guy ribbing. I will have to say though. It's my height and tall dark handsomeness that gets the chicks. Not the fabricated smell. However, I can smell the wet chicks. They should seriously can "wet" smell in cans for females vs Perfume.
GAG steals points from left and right. They really steal emojis? I don't do them. Don't know how? Any rate.
Dryer , too many birds here
That's a good reason! 😂
I dry my clothes in the rack but never outside.
I hang them outside my garden to get dry...
What if it rains?
Oh. 🤣🤣🤣
I use the dryer.
I've never been without a dryer, so I don't know.
What?
I don't know, but I'm sure it can be found on the internet.
I never have, not even once. Just wet pool/beach towels or a bathing suit.
Those will never ever be hung outside. 👀
Sometimes
Dryer or hang inside my bedroom.
52LLLLL bra and 9X panties.
I'd love to watch your bra and panties blow in the wind
Out to dry the same as my mom
Dryer, because it’s more convenient.
Straight dryer. I am on the grid :)
Dryer. This ain't the 1850's
dryer
Much faster. lol
Out to dry.
I do both
I use a dryer.
Dryer
Thanks for like
I grew up that way
Hang out
