The dashes on the roads are 10 feet long. (So in this illustration these cars are more like limousines at around 40'.) Most people think they are 2' long. This shows how easy it is to misjudge distance. While we can use the dashes to see that the actual length of the Orange car can fit over into the lane in front of the green car with the provided space behind the blue car, we have to ask how much space is left, and how precise does ones judgment and timing need to be?
This is how my brain works in that situation.
Psychologically the green car will likely accelerate. This is due to ego and competition. It happens automatically and the driver hardly knows he is doing it. He just does not want someone in front of him. Females are generally more humble and less aggressive so its likely that she will not do this. But anticipating that the driver is about to maneuver into her lane she could possibly decelerate.
We have no idea what the blue car is doing to do. He could decelerate at any time. The extremely close distance required to do the maneuver would not allow for any error. This would also endanger the green car once the maneuver crossed the line into his lane.
I have been in many accidents and some where fatal. When things go wrong you know instantly how horribly fast we are moving. How long it takes to stop. How easy the force of motion can transfer that inertia to the body in damaging ways.
Sum up. It is possible, but so are many other things in this illustration.
This is why I tend to not present such narrow gaps between my vehicle and adjacent ones. I either widen them or cut them out completely.
Also when driving behind another car where others want to merge with traffic from a 90° angle or a dead stop, I don't leave a precarious distance they will be tempted to jet out into.
Over the years I found the greatest reward is making it home 3 seconds later, safe and much less stressed.
It depends on how fast every car is going and what kind of car the orange one is.
I used to take smaller gaps than that going just under 100mph.
If you're in a dodge neon or a old Ford focus, no you can't make that, if you're in a Honda or an acura, probably, if you're in an infinity g37 or even a marginally powerful pickup, you got that all day.
A full car length of space is more than what's necessary depending on the speed difference you can build up
It's a little harder to say. I know the older camrys are usually 0-60 in 7 or 8 seconds so that would put it in the strong maybe category. In my experience the way their set up, they aren't very peppy on the highway.
But I'd be willing to bet the new camry' s are pretty quick. I know that box one they made with scion is relatively quick.
I wouldn't expect the average person to be comfortable doing that in a Toyota.
Yes and no. Yes if the blue car accelerates while you turn your blinkers you’re moving to the right and letting the green car know you’re changing lanes… giving them enough time to maintain their speed giving you time to increase your speed and move to their lane.
No, if for obvious reasons the speed is same for all, and there is so little space and time to change lane for you without hitting anyone
I am sure there is some fool out there who could accomplish that feat.

If the blue car is going at least as fast as the green car, then yes - but it would be extremely dumb. All you need is for the blue car to slow down slightly, and you're in the middle of a 3+ car pile up.
And yes, it's a myth that cars (not vans etc) have a blind spot, but that diagram is actually wrong - it's perfectly possible to adjust the wing mirrors to cover both the "blind spot" and the sides of your own car (handy when reversing down narrow lanes) at the same time.
Not in the current situation, too dangerous.
Assuming the cars move at a high speed, (looks like a highway or Autobahn)
You need to see the green car fully in your rear mirror.
You can but you'll probably cause an accident, either hitting the green car, causing the green car to lose control, or causing the green car to brake hard and get rear-ended by the car behind it.
Yes, it is a simple maneuver. Just get up enough speed to pass the green car and if the red car is still in the way, slow down until it is past. If it has already passed just go into the left lane.
I'm actually the black motorbike between ''orange'' and ''green''.
I couldn't be bothered. Just open the throttle - and they're ''history'' :D
Legal? ... Who cares.
If blue is driving faster than green it is definitely possible.
Depends on the speed of the blue car compared to the green one. But I have seen people pull it off.
Yeah but you better time it right because there’s barely enough room to do it
It’s possible I guess, but I wouldn’t attempt it
No I think it's too close.
Depends how fast blue is going.
yes but it will be close
