Recently noticed that many people do not like small talk. Can you tell me any other way to create contact with unknown people?

I am asking this as someone who is learning to talk to people and make new contacts on the ways.

Works with most of the people, but does not with some.
So I am really asking for any alternative way here.

I don’t like small talk myself. It can get boring quickly and is especially annoying if the conversation isn’t going anywhere and the sole purpose of the convo is to fill the silence. I want to have a reason to talk, and it’s nice to cut to the chase.


Here’s an alternative to small talk. Greet and then dive into something interesting or fun. Instead of greeting someone and then talking about the weather or something, you can start with an icebreaker. Get creative. 🙃


Greet + Small Talk: Hey, it’s really sunny today don’t you think?


Greet + Icebreaker: Yo! Nice green scarf. Are you in Slytherin house?

Meet them where they are. YOU find a point of common interest and ask them about what they know.

Give most people the opportunity to talk about themselves and they'll fill up your time.
And this is not a way to manipulate people but a way to get to know them. (Not that you would; it's just a general point)
Be genuine in your interest.

To be honest, I have been practicing exactly what you told here. Made lots of contacts and many new friends in the process. I am well known in all the divisions of our Electronics department now. Among students obviously. I seldom visit any teacher personally.

But I really thank you for giving me these tips. Recently I have been questioning my own methods, but your advice here solidified my approach.

I really can't think of other ways. On forums like this, people will find others they agree with and can start conversations, but small talk probably will be involved at some point or other.

“Small talk” is what people call convo’s they dont like. Everyone likes talking about themselves. Boom.
