Is it childish for me to just block everyone I don’t like, or get along with?

Often times my way of cutting people off is just to entirely block their number, and block them on every social media platform so they have no way of contacting me, or being in my business, is that childish? I’ve had some people tell me it’s better to face things head on, not to block those people, just don’t respond to their messages, and let things be. Does it make me look weak to block someone on everything, as if they never existed? What do y’all think block people that you cut off, or friends you no longer want to associate with, or leave them added, etc and let them be?

I think that blocking can be a very useful tool. But I do prefer to just ignore people. Blocking people may fuel their fire or unnecessarily burn a bridge that I might want to cross later in life.

I guess I prefer to approach online situations the same way I would in person. I can't block someone in real life, so I'd have to avoid or tolerate them. Even if it means remaining silent in their presence and/or not giving them much attention or validation.

I think I'm this way because I don't disagree with someone's entirety. I'd just be disagreeing with the words or acts they currently say/do. But people can change. So I'd prefer to respectfully voice my difference in opinion (without invalidating theirs) & hope that they one day change to (what I see as) a more correct view.

Nah, that's fine. It's your right as an Internet user to block or ignore whoever you want. Is it a little arrogant? Sure. But can you do it anyway? Yeah absolutely. I have a somewhat decent list here on GaG myself, mostly from people I've had bad encounters with, or folks who were blatantly rude to me.

Some block me instead, which is fine. One less person I have to deal with on this website to be perfectly honest.

It’s a little immature. I try not to block people unless they seem super shady or insult or hit on me really bad. I don’t usually block my exes, for instance.

Someone once told me that blocking someone makes the person feel helpless and unwanted. I don’t wanna make people feel that way unless there’s a really good reason to.
