Is getting humiliated by a whole class the most cowardly bullying?

I was bullied in 8th grade for months. The issue is I wasn't a small (I'm still tall), weak girl that doesn't fight back. If it was 1 or 2 classmates, things would be solved either by exchange of words or me throwing punches. I didn't care about getting in trouble for that.

However, then this happened:

A classmate and their friend involved practically the whole class to humiliate me and make me feel outnumbered. I then felt at lost of words or energy, as if I got silent by overwhelming 18-25 laughing faces. I felt alone and said nothing by then. The only way it was over is when I stopped caring one day and they saw it wasn't working anymore.

But seriously if a bully knows you'll either beat the hell out of them or reply verbally but that person changes the bullying method, uses social bullying and gets others to join the laughter isn't that cowardly?
