Anyway, there were several factors playing in, but the big thing for me was that I'd started going to the Latin Mass a few months earlier. I'd started to get a sense that the more I cussed, the lesser willingness I had to resist other sins and bad habits, the lesser sense of moral fortitude, so I gave it up for Lent that year. I'd given it up for Lent for many preceding years, but this time, I wanted carry it with me beyond Easter.

It's just an internally unhealthy habit. I'd even say immature.
