Last night I hit a cat on my way back home and it died, and I'm feeling hurt and anxious about what happened any thoughts?

If you know the owner, if it had one, about all you can do is tell them and move the cat off of the road. Sometimes cats run in traffic. Sometimes they get hit. I assume you didn't try to hit it, so it was an accident. My family has had outdoor cats most of my life. I think 4 of them got hit by cars. It's upsetting, but so is any pet death.

Two of them were hit by members of our own family. They had been sleeping under the car, right behind a wheel. Different people, years and years apart. Both felt horrible about it. But we put the cats in a box. The first one we buried and gave a headstone, since we lived outside city limits in a bigger yard at the time. The other, we wrapped in a few plastic bags and sat it's box in the trash bin to be taken away.

One of them was a kitten. Maybe it was dark and the driver didn't even notice it. I found it in the morning and wrapped it up in a box before anyone else saw it. It looked bad. Worse than any other dead cat I've ever seen.

One of them was hit on the same street a year or so later. He was mostly black, and also hit at night or in the early morning. But someone noticed. When I saw him, he had been moved off of the street on a page of newspaper. He was stiff dead, but not disfigured. I carried him back to put in a box. I appreciate whoever moved him off the road.

My thoughts are that it was accidental and you are far more compassionate than the average guy.
