It depends on what context you are asking.

There are only a handful of people on the planet whose opinion of my PRIVATE life I care about. Everyone else's opinion of me is irrelevant to me.

As a small business owner, I obviously need to care what my customers think of me, but my referral rate speaks to that - most of my work comes from referrals, and I've got several 5th-generation referrals (one person referred me to a friend, who referred me to another friend, etc.) and several customers who have referred more than 5 other people to me directly. Obviously I'm doing something right. But when I'm at work, I'm completely focused on the job, and I almost never stray far from talking about the job. Most of my customers know little about me except for the work I do for them, and that's as it should be, in my opinion.

I have a handful of customers who I have a very close relationship with - I handle all of their properties, I come and go as needed even if they aren't home, and I get invited to their parties and special events. For example, one of my customers had his annual company party and rented out the Budweiser Hero Deck at the Oakland A's game, and he gave me 4 tickets, which included food and drinks. And in a surprise to all of us, his wife, who is a professional opera singer, sang the national anthem that day. The point is: I've known him and his family for 9 years, and he's one of the few customers who knows much of anything about me personally, and that's because we also have similar values.

I did. Then a moment of realization occurred. I asked myself how many people whose opinion of me mattered.

There were my parents. My sister, and a couple of work colleagues I respected. Just one hand of people. After that I didn't care what most people thought of me. I had the respect of those whose respect mattered to me.

Its a good exercise to do.

to an extent yes if it affects my life, which why I choose to dress and carry myself the way I do. but when it comes to random people all around, then definitely not and I think my personality proves that enough with how little I actually get embarrassed about things.

Mostly no because I know who I am but not to the point to where I don't listen if there's legitimately something I'm doing wrong.

Most feedback isn't worth listening to though as it's surface level and done with the person having no idea what they're talking about. Such as using simple labels as insults, those aren't worth my time

I care what my clients think about me because that affect the bottom line. I care what my friends think within reason. Random people? Only if they are psychotic.

Everyone does. It's part of being human. It's evolutionary and played an important role in our own safety and survival. Still does, but to a lesser extent.
