People hate me when I talk about a UBI or even the concept of no money. One dick on my other question, said my brain had rotted. Needless to say, he joined my blocked friendzone.

UBI = Universal Basic Income. The future is coming fast, and YOU can't stop it just because you don't like it. The first phase will be when people are just paid to exist. Where will the money come from? The robots will do the work, and their salary will go to the government, and the government will give it to you. The second phase will be where there simply isn't any money, and everything is free. As for phase one, if my brain has rotted, so has the brain of the richest man on Earth. You know, they guy that shot a Tesla into space. I didn't make this up, I got it from the top minds and visionaries of our time.

And when Walt Disney predicted that someday we would be able to talk on the phone and see the other person, they said his brain had rotted. They said Thomas Edison's brain had rotted when he was trying to invent the light bulb.

So imagine you're living in a time when work is optional. If you wanted to eat Pringles all day and watch Jerry Springer, you could. Or you could work for free. Captain Picard didn't get a paycheck.

I predicted awhile ago. People that worked would have their earnings sent to the Feds. They in turn would put your monthly allowance on a debt card. That way your hard earned money could be spread around to everyone. Even the ones that think that they don’t need to be productive.
Then the Feds could control how many Pringles you could buy in a month. Since they are so unhealthy. If you want to buy too many gallons of petroleum, or a half gallon of ice cream. Ain’t gonna happen! We all need to be healthy and not destroy our planet.

You will only create an ingenious system of bartering. The hooker needs a microwave, so you give her that instead of cash. Freddy needs some car parts, so you exchange the car parts for the crank.

I had a friend with two kids, and was on public assistance. She needed money for pot. We went to the grocery store and I loaded up $100 in food in the cart. She paid with her welfare card, and when we left the store I handed her $75.00. Is that bad of me? I don't care. If I didn't save the $25.00, then someone else would. Am I a criminal? Sure, and so is Joe Biden.

When I worked at the country club, guys would be $1,000 per hole. They didn't want a paper trail, so they paid cash. There will always be a way around electronic money.

@Wade12345 If you would like the government to have total control over your spending. No currency would be great. Then they could control what you purchase, what you own and even where you would go on vacation. As Gummy said. Bartering would be the backwoods way of living.
The other thing would be. Someone can not hack what is not on nor connected to the internet. As would electronic currency would be.

You bought your share of gasoline this month. You need the exercise, so walk to work.
You want to buy a gas burning car? No can do. Buy electric, but there isn't enough electricity to charge. So you will need to walk anyway!

Considering I've oriented my life around obtaining currency, I don't honestly know what I would do if that wasn't an option anymore.. maybe I would be a tinkerer? I would just sit in my garage, depressed, and make things.. I've always wanted to make a trebuchet. Maybe I'll do that. A ballista seems more fun.

I was around 10 when I started working. My brother and I painted and cleaned our dad's rental houses. I know about chasing a buck. And I understand that this question is a difficult one, because people attribute not having to work, as being lazy. My sister-in-law has a robot vacuum. She works, but she doesn't care to vacuum when she gets home.
When I asked this question before, a guy asked me why a company would pay people not to work. He said why not just kill all the people. What? So now you have a company making widgets, and you just killed all the customers.
I know a guy who teaches handicapped kids in Thailand. Most are wheelchair bound, but they have amazing spirits and attitudes. He teaches them English, but there are many other things you can teach them. The school can't afford to pay him, but he gets a studio apartment that is slightly bigger than a closet. And he gets a bowl of rice soup in the morning. He has plenty of money, so he lives in a condo. He uses his school closet/studio just to store stuff.
If none of us needed money, there would be many jobs out there that we would gladly do for free.

I've been in a provider mindset for just over a decade and maybe it's because I've got no formal education, or maybe it's just my area, but I've had to grind to make things happen. The grindset became a mindset and I approach things radically different because of it. Without it, I would feel kinda useless to be honest. That could be a reflection of capitalism, society, or men in our culture- that's all beyond my ken- but I dread retirement, as it's an admission that I'm not able to contribute anymore, and I've been promoted to 'burden'.

Hopefully my mindset changes by the time I reach retirement age, should I live long enough to do so.

Okay- I have been IT manager for the last 20 years or so. I taught computer science part time. When I saw a full time teaching position at a local college I applied for it and was hired. After teaching for 4 years I was laid off because of covid. I fully expected to go back at some point. I was unemployed for over 18 months. I was one of those folks that probably made out better on unemployment. The college never got the enrollments to hire me back. I considered retirement but after loafing for a year and a half I was just too bored and found an IT job.

I'm pretty good with computers, and people ask me why. I just say that I've made just about every mistake there is, and learned how to fix it. lol But you really do learn more from mistakes, than you do if everything just magically goes right. When I had my desktop, I probably installed about 100 Linux distros, just to see if I could do it, and try them. People who are Linux fans will sing the praises of Linux, and say how horrible Microsoft is. I came across an article and the guy was pretty funny. He said he uses Linux on his second computer, and it's kind of like having a part time job on the side. lol It really is. Even Linus Torvalds admits that his desktop operating system sucks.
I guess it's solid as a rock for servers, but is NOT user friendly.
I have helped people revive their ancient computers by putting Linux on them. It is very good for that. Windows is so bloated that the old machines can't take it. It would be better to just buy a newer machine, but if you don't have the money, you don't have the money. Puppy Linux is very difficult to use, but it's faster than greased lightning. It doesn't even need to be installed, because it's small enough to run off of RAM.

I did not know much about it until I taught a UNIX/Linux course. It is mostly a multi user environment. I showed my students the desktop version with the GUI but I never got anyone that was really interested. Windows is like the Star. Trek movies. Only the even numbered ones were good.

I would never use a system without a GUI. Now all I use is my Chromebook, and unless you need to use something fancy like auto cad, I think it's the way to go. They can now download Android apps, so you have a million free apps at your disposal. And mine is a touch screen, so it's easy to play games.
