How much cash do you normally carry, and how much do you have on you now? What other methods of payment do you have, and which do you prefer?

I usually get $200-300 from the ATM. I start thinking about getting more when I'm down to about $50 or so.

Lately I've been carrying more because I got paid in cash for some under the table work. So I've been carrying around some hundred dollar bills to buy groceries, which I usually use a card for.

I have carried as much as 10K in cash before, but that's far from the norm.

I virtually always pay cash at restaurants and anything under about $20-50 depending on my mood. Online I either use a card or PayPal.

Cash is always a good backup, though cards are usually accepted everywhere: Applepay, AM EX, Disc, Mastercard, my bankcard.

Cash is a sobering spending experience. When you run out of money, you CAN't spend more.

With cash, you don't pay interest fees and, cash isn't trackable.

Unfortunately, with credit cards overspending is the easiest and worst thing possible. Especially at 18, to 29 percent interest. Cash has none of this disadvantage.

Of course you need credit cards for emergencies, but unless you pay off those balances as quickly as possible, you dig yourself a hole with credit. Sure, you can't be robbed with credit cards, but simply don't carry loads of cash.

You need a healthy spending balance using both. When you don't have physical money, overspending is far too easy to do.

There's always $50 tucked in - which is intended for emergencies - however, the way prices have gone up, it probably won't be too helpful. Then whatever spending cash.

I also have debit and credit cards but I don't use them often. 🙂

I always make sure to have spending cash - that's not the 50 bucks I have tucked away or I'll use my debit card. I try to avoid the credit cards - not saying I never use them, tho. 🙂

Yes. I prefer it. I've come across places with are card only and some which are cash only. So best to have both handy if there is a restriction on payment methods at for eg a restaurant im going to. Plus its easier to keep track of cash. For eg, if i have £100, and at the end of the day i have £40 remaining with me, chances are i'll know exactly where i spent it. Whereas with the card payments, tap tap tap, often we don't even remember the sums we paid and then there's a mini heart attack when i open my onling banking to check.

Yes. I’m a server/bartender so I get most of my money in cash.
I usually deposit all my 10 dollar bills and above. Then I keep all my 1s and 5s as spending money.
right now I have $68 in cash in my wallet.

Sometimes, I have clients who pay me in cash and I usually deposit it in my checking account but sometimes I just put it in my wallet. But usually not more than $500.

I may still have a ten that somebody lost on a bet shoved in there. I keep it there in case I find the one toll that doesn't take card or something when I'm on a long highway drive to places I don't know. That hasn't happened in years now... so it's been sitting there a while.

On a long drive is a great idea. Any time I travel more than 4 hours, I make sure I have enough cash to pay for fuel to get home. You never know when electronic forms of payment can fail. At home, a minor inconvenience. Hours away? You may be stuck a while.

I always carry cash. If I can't buy it with cash I don't buy it. I have a debit card that I pay bills with and I have a credit card then I don't think I've ever used maybe once I'm not sure. And I like my bank I do not want our government with their currency change to become my bank because then they have full total control of me and that's bullshit

My credit card got declined three times after I forgot my passcode and input the wrong numbers a few times so now I believe I need a back up plan. Maybe another card by a different company just in case my 2 MBNA cards get declined again during an emergency such as needing to buy water or food.

I never carried cash. Not even pre pandemic. I place everything on my credit cards. Builds and maintains quality credit, Aeroplan pints so I don’t have to purchase flights outta Canada, fancy lounge access…

I don’t like the sound of change floating about in my purse.

Absolutely. Small businesses always appreciate cash. If I get a haircut I pay cash, if I buy something from a werkend market - cash, if I shop at an independently owned corner store I go cash.

Every now and then I just withdraw about 300 bucks and I just draw down on it.

I find it harder to spend than just flipping out a credit card.
You see each bill as you count it out.
I think how long did I have to work to earn this.
It isn't just numbers on a piece of paper.

What I find interesting is how many people use their debit cards for transactions. I'd never use mine for anything other than the ATM.

Yes, some cash. There's a few small restaurants in my area that only accept cash. Also, most of the donut places in my area only accept cash. I carry about $40 if I feel hungry for some curry or donuts or Mexican food.
