Do you still use cash?

I always have cash on me. I do use one credit card (to earn points) and have one debt card for banking purposes. There are still a lot of cash only business before and after Covid. Covid also have increased or forced a lot of businesses to participate in epay or touch free system.
China tried to do epay ONLY (including paying a pack of gum or a bottle of water) before Covid… didn’t work out when many of their citizens still didn’t own a cell phone.
the govt (US/China/Dubai, and others) are obviously trying to take control of this. I called my bank to open a vault close to me… they said, they no longer rent out safe boxes nation wide … makes me wonder….
The US is slow to the changes … However, they are converting more and more epay availabilities…kids are also being trained to use Apple Pay.
I use cash a lot especially when shopping with mg kids… I give them the cash and they figure out the rest. I also like to tip with cash to support restaurant workers.
I just heard (don’t remember what… sigh… maybe 401k or some kind of retirement program)… they are allowing the use of crypto currency. I still don’t trust crypto…
the world is moving in a very fast pace…
Yes, as much as possible! I also usually keep $50 or so in my purse in the event of an emergency. I do have charge cards but I try not to use them. If I do, I pay it all off at the end of the month.
I can't think of any stores or businesses near me that won't accept cash. For awhile a few fast food places would only accept cash if it was exact - due to a coin shortage.
@comekitty if you don't use your credit cards and pay them off to a zero balance, they might cancel your card. That is what happened to me. I had a credit card for over 20 years. Always paid on time, and the full amount. I didn't use it for a few months, so they cancelled my only credit card.
I don’t use it as much as I used to. But I prefer to have some on me, just in case. I’ve been thinking I want to use it more, like at some gas stations you’re paying 5-10 cents more per gallon paying on a card. That adds up after a while, and all it takes from me to avoid it is foresight to hit an ATM and walking 50 yards to go in and out of the gas station to pay.
Weird that a ballpark would go cashless. Those guys have never seen a dollar they didn’t like, hard to imagine they’d refuse a sale to someone with cash. Especially with the mobile vendors, it was weird enough passing your cash down a row of 20 people for a bag of peanuts, let alone a card, lmao.
Are you open to using a debit card such as those sold by WalMart?
WalMart has debit cards that you prepay in Walmart and then use like a normal debit card, but it is not linked to any bank account. You can keep $100 or less loaded so that your potential for loss is fairly minimal.
@OlderAndWiser Thanks for the info. It is helpful. My son tells me we are going to see a MLB game for Fathers Day.

I say their loss, what they should do is round prices to the nearest dollar and stop dealing with coins, just bills.
I have an uncle that jokingly goes to places and ask if they take cash cause that is all he carries.
I won't use a debit card for anything cause there is no recourse to get money back if stolen. I do use credit cards, that I can dispute transactions on if they aren't mine or they were mine but services were not given as promised.
I do a mix of cash and card, some places still don't take cards and some do but have a fee to use them. Everyone wants a direct connect to your savings though, via debit or EFT cause its better for businesses but worse for consumers.
I guess if you go to games anymore just sneak in your own food, cause you can't buy the over priced stuff there anyways.
I was in a parking garage a couople of years ago. When I was exited there was nobody in the booth to take the cash, just a credit card machine. I will not put something like that on a credit card. They had a button that you pushed if there was problem. I explained that I wanted to pay cash and the guy told me that O had to pay with a credit or debit card. I told him I wanted to pay cash and it I could not I would drive through the gate. So the guy came out of his nice warm office and took my 12 bucks.
That's funny, I would of been like. I don't have a credit card, just left it at that. Of course if they had a sign when you entered said no cash accepted which if they have a booth that someone can mans likely means they do not... its like do you want my money or not.
HA, a good suggestion would be... add a button that says, I don't have a card press here to raise arm to let cash only people out.
Just saying... lol.
@t-8900 Ironically here they tell me if they have your pin, its gone for good... and to use a debit card you have to use your pin.
My wife and I deliberately use cash a LOT.
Governments (in particular the IRS) and banks have a high incentive to institute a "cashless society." And it's part of the globalist plan for a totalitarian New World Order/One World Government.
It's a step toward the Chinese "social credit" model.
It would remove ALL your privacy and make your money vulnerable to fees, restrictions and even confiscation without any recourse.

I do yes. As I have to. Using Google pay is not always an option, sometimes I experience server down issues while making an online payment (Gpay) and sometimes I have network issues or my battery is too low (or it's dead) to use online payment apps.
Some cab drivers and shop keepers don't have online payment app in their phone, so I always keep some money in my bag and besides I give money to homeless people for buying food.
So, yes. I'll always carry cash.
I do! I was raised to ALWAYS carry cash with me, even if it's a few dollars, in case of an emergency. Even if it's just 5, 10 dollars.
I usually purchase small items and take out with cash. And use my debit card for groceries and larger purchases.
How many free hotel rooms, free airline flights and cash back rewards have I earned the past few years using cobranded credit cards, most of which had no annual fee. I wouldn't buy a donut with cash. And with zero liability if someone puts fraudulent charges on my account, anyone who doesn't take advantage of money they're literally just giving back to you, is a fool. The biggest challenge is making sure I remember which card to use for which type of purchases so I'm always maxing out my benefits, 4% back for gas, triple miles for dining and on and on.
Yes, I still prefer to use cash. I had a credit card for over 20 years. I always paid my bill on time. Then about a year ago when people were getting their credit cards cancelled during COVID-19, they cancelled my credit card. Credit cards are better than debit cards, because if you have a dispute, the credit card companies could do something about it and get your money back.
The Subway sandwich shop down the street doesn't have ake cash anymore either.
What will we do if the stores won't take cash?
You were right about credit cards being better than debit cards. I have a tiny car with a small gas tank and I went to get gas. For some reason the first gas pump wouldn't work so I drove to another pump I put my card in and it didn't work again so I just left and went to another gas station.
At the second gas station the machine said I had insufficient funds. I quickly looked on my banking app and saw that the first gas station put a $400 lien on my debit card.
So I get no gas but it cost me $400 to not get gas.
I raised holy hell with the first gas station but they couldn't do anything so I called the bank to see if they could take the lien off and they're only advice was to never use a debit card at a get gas station. She said always use a credit card. And I would say always use a credit card for everything, just pay it off every month.
Here in Japan, it's difficult to find places still that accept credit cards; oddly for the entire stereotype that Japan is supposed to be some advanced society, there are barely any places that accept debit/credit. It's mostly cash. So I use cash 98% of the time.
I also bought my house with cash -- a suitcase full of cash. No mortgage.
Mine was fairly inexpensive by Japanese standards! I wasn't so rich and had to move far away from central Tokyo. But I think here the idea of loans and credit is not emphasized nearly as much as in the US as a comparison.
Here they don't even provide money to savings accounts typically. They deduct rather than add. I like the American system better! I remember one time while I was in the US that I got like $30 extra just for storing money in savings account for a few months. In Japan, it is the opposite. They take out chunks every month.
I probably should do that! I need to learn how to invest in appreciating assets. That's something very alien to me. I'm good at saving but horrible at investing.
Cash payments, along with associated infrastructure, have been gradually phased out and dismantled in Sweden for the past decade or so. This is obviously classist/ageist disfavouring the rural and/or elderly populations, as well as the homeless and certain minorities associated with begging.
Although that last point with begging might be a positive thing because many of these people involved in begging might be exploited by criminal organizations.
Dismantling cash infrastructure also becomes an issue of crisis response/resiliancy. What if transaction systems get hacked? What about cell towers/mobile payments being disrupted? You see the problem.
I feel like everywhere should accept both card and cash at this day and age. I see that society is moving towards electronic payments and businesses are going cashless but overall I don't think cash will go away at least not anytime soon. I personally use my credit card but always feel good about carrying some cash especially for when I tip waiters.
U must live in Wisconsin. Miller Park just went cashless and they've lost a lot of business. These places should look at their population. Here in Milwaukee it's a lot of blue collar workers who don't have cards. Everyone should read the book "New World Order ". It's coming true!!!
That's exactly what I thought when I read this question. I was listening to a late night radio talk show and the topic was the New world order and currency in general.
The expert they had on said that the day will come when you walk into a grocery store to buy a six pack of beer. You'll swipe debit card and either the cashier or some machine will tell you that you've already used your allotment for beer this week.
You won't be able to use cash because it will no longer be a thing. The government is desperately trying to get rid of cash.
The government has no idea how you spent your cash, and they want to change that. They want to know every single thing you buy.
CandiceK... yep. people will think u r crazy until it happens!!!
It was a conspiracy until the Canadian government started shutting peoples bank accounts down for their donations. Same thing on a larger scale in Russia with citizens having nothing to do with the war in Ukraine lost access to the Swift system. Social Credit Scores already exist in China. We have a credit system and a corporate social credit system in America, it could be a matter of a few years before we’re being subjected to something similar. All they need to do is go to a digital traceable currency and we’ll be living in a dystopia.
@CandiceK They want people to have a chip so they won't even need a card. The Bible says this is going to happen sometime in the future. Some say this will be the mark of the Beast. The Bible says you will not be able to buy or sell without it. Can you imagine that this will also be a way that scammers can get your money too.
I'm talking about a chip like you have on your credit card. That little gold thingy.
I remember during Covid there were some stores that had a coin shortage and so we either had to pay with exact change or use debit or credit some stores were offering a store credit (some stores wouldn't even take checks). I also try to keep some cash on me though I don't use it as much now, I also keep checks on me and have a debit and credit card. I haven't started using the google pay or anything like that yet.
Yup, you’d be surprised how much easier it is to keep track of your spending and budget that way. If you go grocery shopping for instance and your budged for the week is max £50 cash then you’d be more careful to budget as the money is tangible and feels s lot more ‘real’
That also many places still only accept cash, it’s less traceable too.. I just prefer it unless it’s online shopping tbh
I have not used any cash nor had cash on me since 2013. Here in Sweden! We have boutiques and stores that has a sign that says (cash free) which means they don't take cash and with time, more and more stores are doing the same. Store robberies crime has gone down.
As for me I use a credit card for everything & every time I swipe I make points & redeem those points for rewards at the end of the year & to top it off I’m sure I piss my credit card company off by paying my bill on time as well. On the flip side I do have emergency cash on hand just in case. As for you I think you should buy a gift debit card for yourself & put $200.00 on it so when you go to a game you can use that & always reload the card if needed.
Yeah. That's how I make change to get more money. For that time I thought I could pay that loan but my boss wanna be a bish now I gotta go for that emergency change.
I only use cash, I never had a charge card, debt card or any kind of cashless.
I just paid 935.00 dollars in cash for my new glasses.
(Yeah, I had no idea transition tint and the frames were both over 200 bucks alone. I was sticker shocked)
That is all I use if I can afford it I'm not going to buy it if I don't have the cash on me to buy it I will go to the bank and get it out and go pay cash for it I'm not going to put it on a card 4 layaway program I'm going to pay for it right then and there and be done with it
They are trying to take away all cash right now as it is remember the scare of the change that we ran out of coins that's because they wanted people to give up their piggy banks
I like your question because right now the reason why we have covid the reason why we have no food the reason why we're losing our jobs is because we are going to be controlled by Nico all of our governments have sold us all out they want one currency and one currency only now between Russia China and the USA one of them has to control the currency and whichever one does will be the leader of the Free World it's not free anymore they want to eliminate all cash all coins you want to take away all of her money once they are able to do that food shortages will start to happen and now you don't have any money no change to even buy food once a government controls the food they control the people the government is giving away free phones unlimited everything good deal huh because with that phone that is your personal ID with that phone they can track you in everything that you do they can control everything you do if you're a bad mouth on the internet about the government they know about it now you use your phone to go grocery shopping you go to buy something you have to use your phone but the government has you red flags they say sorry something's not working right you have to come back later they will be able to control everything you do New World organization is the very wealthy trying to get rid of the very poor
And 5 G is another way to control us 5G is a military weapon all it has to be done is turned on and pointed and it will burn the fuck out of your skin you will want to run you will do anything for them to shut it off that's why they are every 5 blocks in neighborhoods we're headed for a very bad time you just have to put the pieces together of the puzzle to understand it and it's right in front of us and people still cannot see it little by little the manipulations happen and that's what you're doing little by little you think covid-19 is over with I know soon we'll have to put on her mask they will also start doing more and more propaganda and more and more fear tactics to control and scare us do you know all it takes is 14 days to brainwash somebody with the net Scare Tactics and propaganda look at all the people that are still wearing masks it's because they believed in covid-19 so much they have been scared to death because of all the lies all the manipulation that they will never take that mask off if you want to learn something the next time that we have this happen and they tell us all these people are dying again in the hospitals are full go down to your local hospital check and see how many people are in there it will be quiet you won't see anybody I guarantee it
I barely use anything else. Distributionism doesn't really work beyond the household or maybe community level, but I'm an individual, and it works just fine for me. Unfortunately, the world is increasingly leaving me behind, and there are a few things that make it mandatory- for now, at least. But places that don't take cash are generally places I'd prefer to avoid anyway, so...
I live in India where there are lots of people who do not accept card or app based payments. People who are generally at the lower end of goods and services; parking attendants, corn sellers, watermelon vendors, etc. These guys are technologically not so aware so a large part of my country still uses cash and will continue to do so for the forseeable future.
I use both. I have cash on hand always. I also have bitcoin, etherum, and diamonds and gold and silver just in case
Yes, because I live in Germany where you can't even use cards in many restaurants and so.. But I am actually from Denmark where cashless is becoming bigger. Two different worlds as physical neighbours xD..
I like having the option to use both.. so I am not tracked with every transaction, but I also don't need to carry around a lot of cash.
Of course I still use cash. I'm ancient, don't forget!
Bohemian easy payment plan - 100% down, no monthly payments.
The only time I used a "cash card" was when I went out of the country on a mission trip.
And as long as we have businesses that run partly on "tips", cash will still be used, and I will use it to pay my server/hair cutter/service provider any gratuities.
I still use cash especially when shopping at the likes of a Mom & Pop store so they do not incur any of the fees that card companies impose on store owners, also if the power goes out I can still pay for what I need. I usually have the equivalent of $75 in my wallet at anyone time, If a business refuses to accept cash then I do not use them, there are always others who will.
This explains so much about you…good luck living in 1930.
Yeah, they broke up. Claimed their solo careers were going in different directions.
@TheBigWhistle you mean, as opposed to One Direction?
(Shitty grin)
honestly i think digital payment methods are convenient for the end user but at the price of their privacy... it's a huge step in creating the completely transparent citizen. it opens up so much potential for control and manipulation. i think it's dangerous. i thing we should outlaw places not accepting cash currency...
If I have any on me I’ll use it, don’t really bother to keep much in my wallet though.
Credit cards don’t cost anything unless you don’t keep up with it, and using my main card for a year and a half ish has racked up enough points for a flight to Europe
Yes, we switched from credit to cash during the last recession. If a merchant won't take the national currency, I'll step aside and let them sell to someone else.
Preferably. And if a place won't take it, i just won't go there unless i use a gift card that doeent require account info
Cash is king. Places want you to go cashless to track you and force you into their system. Even better, you don’t need a card—just use their app. They totally aren’t tracking everything you do and buy and they definitely aren’t selling the data to advertisers and other entities.
Honestly never ever use cash. It's easier to use a card. Sometimes my mom sends me cash for my kids and I immediately put it into their accounts cause of how much I dislike holding on to cash.
I occasionally use cash but most of my spending is via credit card that I pay off in full at the end of each month. I don't have nor do I want a debit card.
I want Hilton points and airline miles, so I almost always use credit cards. I think that the only time is use cash is when I slide a quarter into the shopping cart at Aldi.
I do still use cash quite a lot, but I do use cards as well. Seriously though I'm not paying for a newspaper with a bloody card. I think it's important to keep the cash alive.
I keep $3,000, all in 20's around in a secret location. If the shyt hits the fan, as it likely to in the next 5 years, I'll have a back-up. Learning about Silver, just in case.
Yes, I have only ever used cash. I'm kind of old fashioned when it comes things like that.
Excluding online purchases almost always, antique dealers and jewellery as well as Hatton Garden are used to and often prefer cash (in fact a limited few are cash only)
Charity shops are dealt with best in cash
I still use cash and mostly it's cash.. unless I am told i need to use bank card... ugh..
of course... much easier than carrying those bags of gold
With these credit card skimmers lately, I might have to start using cash... But I hate interacting with cashiers when I fill up.
I don't use cash often anymore but sometimes. Sometimes you want to pay with cash so you know how much you have or maybe you don't know the exact amount on your bank account.
Digital enslavement/digital ID/great reset agenda.
People don't realise what they are sleep walking into.
I carry up to about $120 in cash for emergencies. I also carry a debit card from a local credit union which I mostly use.
Sometimes but rarely. There are local venues that are “Cash-less” now here too.
Just go to a store and buy prepaid Visa cards with your cash. Problem solved.
I do for a lot of things, but I’m also prepared if I go to a cashless place.
I do use cash, but very unclear as to what the legal issues would be for a venue going cashless. Might be a poor business decision, but doesn't seem like a legal issue at all.
"Nur Bares ist Wahres."
- German proverb
Most stores in my area are self-checkout with cards only.
I have credit cards but If I was told I couldn't use cash I wouldn't buy the product or service.
I pay in crypto and goldbacks at some local stores that accept it, for places like Walmart or target I use cash.
I don't watch MLB anymore. Summer collegiate ball is where I go to get some of that 9 inning wood bat good times.
Yes, unless it is necessary to use a card.
Old habits die hard.
no… lmfao
I don’t remember the last time I used cash to par for anything
I still use cash most of the time. It would be their loss not mine.
Used cash the other day for take out. Less often though.
Very rarely but every now and then I do I guess if you don’t get with the 21st-century you’re probably going to starve eventually unless you use at least credit cards
I use cash very occasionally and carry some for emergencies
Almost never.
I hate cash and avoid it as much as I possibly can.
Yes I'm an old dinosaur that still uses cash
This made me laugh. 😂
@Brainsbeforebeauty Omg that is even better! 🤣

@PrettyPriya 🤣🤣..

@Brainsbeforebeauty Love it! 🤣 This has made my day. Thank you. 😊
@PrettyPriya lol welcome, that emoji was supposed to have grey hair for old lady lolol but it sent as blonde,
Yeah. I honestly don’t want to risk my info about my purchases to get out in any way.
