Can I use certificate of live birth when I apply for the real id?

What forms of ID are required differs from state to state if what I read below is correct. A certified birth certificate will work in my state. Illinois as well. Google "what do you need to get a real id in *your state*" I suppose to get the best answer.

Don't know about your state, but NC will accept one up to 10 years after it expired last I checked.

My passport expired too. You don't need a passport to get a RealID. I am simply saying that if you have a valid passport, you have all you need to get a real ID. This is because the requirements for a real ID and the requirements for a passport are practically identical.

If you are married be prepared for them to request a marriage certificate as well. They can not be photocopied and must be the originals.

I only have a certified abstract and I am not able to use it.
It has to be an official US. Birth Certificate. If you don't have one you will have to get one from the county records wherever you were born.
It's a pain in the ass.
