I work at target. There’s either old people who will remove the card.3 seconds after they put it in the reader bc they think the machine is going to “steal their money” or it’ll go like this:

Machine: *LOUD BEEPING, FLASHING LIGHT* YOU MAY REMOVE YOUR CARD

person: *looking straight at the machine* er… what do I do now..

Unfamiliarity with the technology. It just shows up and people have to get used to it. Remember those “old people” taught you how to wipe your ass, and how to eat with a fork without gouging your eyes out.

Maybe they know they should remove the card but don’t know how to do it without damaging the clothing item. It doesn’t seem they are the ones that have difficulty understanding words here. It seems like your the one who does not know how to interpret language properly.
