While driving around today (9 October 2023), I saw a sign along the road advertising for Christmas Lights Installation.
It's only October? Too early for Christmas lights?

Putting them up, now, is fine but, turning them on before the first week of Dec. is just too much!. A lot of weirdos, today, think they HAVE to put their Christmas tree up Halloween night and take it down midnight, Christmas night!
I NEVER put my Christmas stuff up `til at least the 2nd weekend of Dec.. The tree goes up the next weekend and it stays up `til mid to late Jan.. That way, you don't get fucking sick & tired of Christmas before it even gets here and you don't feel the need to rip it all down Christmas night BECAUSE you're so fucking sick of it!! Take your fucking time!! Put it up a week or so before Christmas and leave it up to enjoy for the next few weeks!!
Maybe it's because people today never bother to go Christmas visiting, anymore!! Every year, a day or so after Christmas, we'd start taking turns going to the houses of friends and family to see their trees and see what kind of gifts they got and show off the ones we got! It'd take at least a week or two into Jan. before we were all completely done with that. THEN, we'd consider taking the tree down!
Not today!! Christmas is SO fucking commercial and completely disposable that, you put your fucking tree up in September and play nothing BUT Christmas music 24/7 for the next 4 months until Christmas night when the Christmas music stops DEAD at the stroke of midnight and the tree comes down and nobody coming to see you the next day would ever know you even HAD a tree!! How very sad!!
In our town, they can't go up until December, and have to come down by Valentine's Day.
Thanks for the MHO.
It's too early in my view before the 10th of December, maybe the 20th. There should be a designer Christmas period. Seems like every year they try to start Christmas earlier and earlier. We should try to keep Christmas special rather than a 2-3 month period.
Some people do things ahead of schedule cause you get better customer service when there is less competition for service from other customers and there might be lower prices too since setting up lights is easier in October due to less snowfall.

It's never to early. I personally put up lights on November 1st
Well, I like to get them up on March 17th. That way there are beautiful lights up for St. Patrick's Day! And that is not too early for Christmas lights. @Apple1996 said so!
JK. Actually, they go up the day after Thanksgiving and leave them up till Epiphany. Christmas is actually Twelvetide which begins with the birth of Christ on December 25th and ends with Epiphany, which is the coming of the Three Wise Men on Jan 6th.
Well I would think so.. But many many people are already working their butts off to get everything done..
Garden, house outside, house inside, garage...50 million Christmas lights, 20 trees, and a hole lot more decorations..
Not for me.. We'll ok for me.. But i installed a lot on panels... In December I put the panels up.. And I am done.. 😄
What's more hilarious is how long they stay on AFTER Christmas. I've lost count on seeing the same lights from December all the way to about May or June. Like bruh. At that point, there's almost no need to take them down. Because by the time you do you'll have to pull them right by our again lol.
Some people just want to be ready. Could be that the company or men need the business so they do this early, to avoid messy schedules in the winter or when it gets too cold.
I mean there is no set time. You do you and screw anyone who tells you otherwise.
It's your home, it's not damaging your community status (screw HOAs who dictates when you can put one up - this does NOT lower land values)..
It depends. If the snow flies in October where you are, you might already be late…
@redinnocent68 I live in Southeast US. It rarely snows here.
So, clearly too early 😂 As with other decorations, I like to give Halloween its due. After Remembrance/Veterans’ Day feels right.
It's never too early for Christmas lights to be strung. Spread the cheer early - it will lift people's spirits.
It’s never too early to put them up. Heck, just leave them up all year long. That doesn’t mean you have to turn them on.
Too early for Christmas lights would be now during October. Stores sell Christmas stuff now though.
My Christmas lights and decorations don't come out until the day after Thanksgiving. Any day before that is too early in my opinion.
I think they're called Christmas lights for a reason. So anything up until and before the 1st of December is way too early for me.
No Christmas until after Thanksgiving! I want to enjoy each season as they come.
wayyyy wayyyyy too early
Halloween hasn't even happened yet
I think at home it's best to leave it until December but town lights go up mid November onwards
I think so. I tend to wait till after Remembrance Day.
Is it before the First Sunday of Advent? If yes, then it's too early.
I'm an atheist, and it is never too early for shiny glowy things.
Put them up and leave them up.
They begin celebrating Christmas in September in the Philippines.
I put them up the day after Thanksgiving and take them down New Years Day.
Don't put them up when the shops do. They put them up early to sell stuff. Never puts lights up until December.
Before December is too early for any type of Christmas decorations.
I think it's because some people view Halloween as satanic? Maybe?
I start putting them up whenever business starts getting slow in the fall
Way to early. I think 2 weeks before Christmas should be fine.
There’s someone near me that had there Christmas lights and decorations up all year 😂
Hispanics don't care, once they go up, they stay up til half of next year lol
Pre-Halloween is too early
I would say before Halloween is over
Any time before December 1st.
Shouldn't go up till December
